Man, I hate to see it end, but am glad it's a planned end. The manga has been getting stronger and stronger as it has gone on and I'm really looking forward to where Satoko and Konoha end up. Their bond has become something special.
Never would have thought a manga with such a "one-shot" premise would have clawed its way to the top of my favorites like it has. Of course, Marin's general greatness helps.

I was very surprised by this. It did feel like we were closer to the end than the beginning, but as it stands there are still a lot of unresolved plot threads, and one volume doesn't seem like it'll be enough time to tie all of them up. Whenever a mangaka makes this sort of decision, it's important for the readers to respect it, even when we don't necessarily understand it. More than anything now, I hope for good pacing. A lot of the time in situations like these, it's not actually what happens, but rather the pace at which it happens, that disappoints the audience.

It might not be the mangaka's decision.

It is. This article doesn't actually specify, but it was stated in the Volume 6 afterword that this is a decision Burger himself made well in advance.
