Episode 1

And so begins my Winter 2026 Anime Viewing season. Not a bad start. Nothing stellar, but I gleaned moments of amusement. As a huge Skip Beat! fan I was hoping for something in that territory... where the idol becomes the feisty heroine's nemesis, but this show is definitely not that. The first episode gave me no cause to drop so on we go.

Yah, it was pretty okay. Both the leads extremely bipolar dynamics made for some fun interaction. It wasn't a laugh riot, but it was energetic and engaging. And for me, writing about an idol anime, that's pretty high praise.

My current working theory - hammered out talking with other posters during A Star Brighter than the Sun last season - is that most rom-com anime depend on having a supporting cast strong enough to keep the dynamic between the two leads from becoming repetitive; if that's true (or even true most of the time) the rest of the boy band are going to have start exhibiting some personalities that are extremely divergent from their nauseatingly cloyi(koff) I mean, *polished* idol personas as well.

I liked the dance the two leads did during the closing piece.

Utage's family and her school friends can also bear some of the secondary character load, too.

Most of my enjoyment from the first episode was her being a feral fan and him being a boyfailure. I hope this aspect isn't lost too quickly.

Actually makes me think a bit of Monthly Shojo Nozaki-kun, but if Mikorin was the love interest.

I think I'll pass on this one. I couldn't get through the first volume of the manga. The reviews make it sound just a cringe as the manga.

True, but I sort of got the feeling that our female lead was going to be keeping her connection to the fields of fan paradise a secret for as long as she could, and I didn't catch a whiff of family, which isn't at all unusual in anime about high schoolers and the like. I'd bet dollars to donuts that the boy band will be where the character expansion comes from.

But only because donuts cost more than a dollar.

@Dusky - while I'm betting, I'd bet that area you don't want to lose is the main focus of the anime and not going anywhere anytime soon.

@Alan45. I don't know if I'll stick with it, but I'll at least give it a trial period.

Er, didn't catch whiff of her family? Don't you remember the opening scene where she's spazzing out over Dream Boy in front of them all and they are commenting on it?

...

Dude. Tell me you haven't gone back to the heroin. Wink

@ Alan45 - well that doesn't sound very promising. Especially given I'm tougher on rom-coms than I used to be.

That is a no from me. It is not a bad first episode but when it comes to idol shows I am either all in or completely out. It might also be in part due to me having watched too many romance anime last season (like 7 of them).

Wait...I don't remember quitting heroin! Geez, this really might be cause for concern...

...I don't even recall ever doing it in the first place...

I was obviously abducted by aliens and returned moments later to a parallel dimension where Blood's memory is better than mine Wink

@ Edjwald - don't feel bad. How can you be expected to remember every little detail of a show you watched earlier today??? (Hee-hee-hee)

Regarding forgotten idol shows, the use of "heroin" in the subtitles when the correct translation was "heroine" was unintentionally hilarious in CUE! - hopefully that error never got fixed.

I personally loved it and laughed out loud many times.
Also I'm a romance lover so this show's definitely something to try out for me.
I think I'll drop Hana Kimi sooner, if it doesn't get better, which is on one hand more of a surprise since it was a pretty popular manga back in the day, but this show is less outdated, funnier and had more animation quality.

A poster in de preview guide topic said it was weird how a sixteen year old could take a job like this, but I'm not that surprised. Wouldn't let my own kids do it if I had them, but I'm not surprised the law in many countries wouldn't protect underage people in these jobs. Moreover, there are always vacancies for jobs like these that are not the most popular, physically demanding and that don't pay well at all.

Episode 2

What a couple of weirdos. They both need therapy badly, but at least it's sort of entertaining to watch them. Wish that secondary characters were getting more run. Maybe next time?

Episode 2

Despite my opinion on boy bands (members should be given a Trial by Ordeal conducted by Tomás de Torquemada) this was enjoyable enough to watch to likely be a keeper in a thin season.
