While the premise is nothing special there is something about the mood/vibe that makes me want to see more. Everything feels lowkey or maybe even whimsical in a certain way. The conversations, the jokes and even just Lizel observing his new world: it is all portayed in a fun way.

Color me surprised in that the show has some unusual depth to it for an isekai. Some things are not clearly explained and you have to be paying attention to the small gestures and behavior to figure out what is going on. That goes particularly for the last scene in which I think Lizel was trying to cut ties with Gil because the latter is a former noble and avoids ranking up due to shady requests from nobles. I like Lizel as a mc since he is shrewd, calm and still capable (gun magic). Setting wise it may be a tale of time travel instead of a different world.

The aesthetic of the series is very much "the beauty of the unstated", so yeah, you really have to pay attention to understand a lot of the motivations and things going on.

I think Lizel wasn't so much trying to cut ties with Gil (he did ask if Gil was willing to help him out if needed, after all. Lizel would be more decisive if he really wanted to get rid of someone), as he was offering to let Gil go. It's important to him that it's Gil's choice to stay (and that Gil knows it's his choice), since he's used to all his interpersonal relationships having a power imbalance. He wants an equality he doesn't get to experience as a duke and chancellor. Hence not wanting to give Gil any orders, despite clearly being confident he could make Gil obey, and saying he doesn't want to restrain Gil in any way. Basically, I see this as Lizel needing to offer Gil freedom for his own peace of mind, and Gil being offended Lizel thought freedom from him was something Gil would even want, need, or be unable to take for himself.

Also, not really a spoiler, but source material info, so I'm adding the tag: The specifics of why guns are unpopular, since the anime kinda glosses over it, is that spoiler[a) they're labyrinth drops, so the world doesn't have the tech level to make/maintain them, or make bullets, meaning you're reliant on notoriously fickle drop rates for ammo, if they even have reload capabilities at all, and b) the recoil is so bad that most people will dislocate their shoulder or wreck their arm upon firing. That's why Lizel uses magic to hold and fire his.]

The concept of the dungeon paintings is an interesting one. A dungeon being sentient to some degree is nothing new yet it being sentient enough to select who and what goes on each painting is something fresh. It makes me wonder if one dungeon can be more artsy than the other ones with going for a unique style. It makes sense that you have people like that noble collecting them.

The second half showed that Lizel his gun magic is pretty darn useful. Precise, fast shooting and pretty darn deadly. I appreciate the information @Puchu since it makes his magic all the more special.

Finally, there was Stud who lived up to his name this week. The little coffee session with Lizel was important to him and anyone who dared to intrude was in for a really bad time.

Yes, that's one of the things I'm really liking about this. I'm also getting a kick out of how "the author doth protest too much this isn't BL" the whole thing is, what with Stud (pftt) and all the bits of dialog and subtle body language and facial expressions that proclaim otherwise. It all feels so tongue in cheek it's not even gay-baiting.

Mostly I'm just really enjoying watching Lizzie watch things. You can practically see the gears turning with just a slight tilt of his head or faint arch of brow.

Yeah, the whole dungeon paintings thing really threw me for a loop. Very off the wall idea. Smile

I honestly can't tell if Lizel likes to stir up shit or if he has such an aura around him that it will happen no matter what anyway. Barely 5 minutes in town and he gets attacked by a ruffian with a sword and shortly after he meets up with the lord of the town to engage in some foreplay. Given the contents of the letter I wonder how Ray views Lizel because so far he has not done anything to appear that dangerous yet. For that matter, we as viewers have no idea how capable Lizel really is.

The dungeons really are interesting in this. The dungeon paintings have been mentioned before but there being dungeon books including strategy guides is something new. It makes you wonder if the dungeons are sentient or if they are controlled and someone is selecting what can drop loot wise.

Exploring the crystal dungeon was fun and the mc's stayed very calm like always (be it solving a puzzle or fighting monsters). I would have liked to see the dragon fight though.

The mirror world bit at the end was a surprise. I did not expect Lizel's original world to play a part in the story let alone the king going on a quest to find him.

5: The dungeons are probably my favourite character(s) in this series, because they're such little shits. Like, how infuriating must it be the spend days or even weeks figuring out a new dungeon, and then at the very end you get a strategy guide. Like, "THIS WOULD'VE BEEN USEFUL THIRTY FLOORS AGO, YOU *bleep*ing *bleep*!"

Also, there was a pretty massive translation error in the Crunchyroll English subs. At around the 13:23 mark, Gil's line is translated to "Besides, we've already found a hidden room." It should be "Besides, if it was a regular hidden room, someone would've found it already." (probably phrased shorter for reading speed). Hence why he felt he'd need Lizel's help.

You are not wrong but given that most dungeons likely have one or more well hidden secret rooms left to find means that the strategy guide has value. In the case of Lizel it meant a treasure chest, dragon materials and getting a reward for updating the map at the guild. He was smart in showing off the scale and putting a few up for sale since some dumb tourists or adventurers would otherwise underestimate the dragon and get mauled.

The bandit bit was surprisingly brutal. The show may have a cheerful and whimsical vibe to it but it can be pretty bloody.

Ep 6: so there are female characters in this show! This is really a reverse moe anime to me, with cute guys doing cute things (headpats, holding hands, cuddling, scheming and killing).

Anyways, another mostly peaceful episode. I wonder if the story is going somewhere, on the other hand I'm fine if it's just vacation scenery too.

I am impressed by how strong the BL vibes can get in this show while still managing to keep it wholesome and not at all romantic. Eleven the adventurer seems really shady and since those bandits have it out for Lizel for some reason I suspect that he may be involved.

Eleven speaks with forked tongue? I don't think he's involved with the Forkys, unless he's a fugitive - this series has never been that obvious (except for Judge and Stud's names Wink). I think he's just fallen for Lizel like everyone else and wants to protect him from the Forkys.

Speaking of Judge, I keep being taken by surprise by how much taller he is than the others (and his grandfather is taller yet).

Speaking of Stud, his backstory sure came out of nowhere, didn't it? Shocked Lizel's reaction reminded me of when Genos revealed his backstory to Saitama in OPM, but more indulgent, since you know he listened to Stud go through it all again.

And yes, the "this isn't BL, we swear! <winkwink>" vibe is becoming ridiculous. But it still always puts a smile on my face. Very Happy

Welp, Eleven is not only involved in the mess but he is in fact the bandit leader. For once the show was actually really obvious with the guy with a forked tongue being Forky. I doubt that he will be an issue going forward though since he was tamed in a manner of speaking. Good thing the show is not a BL because that scene could have been very different. It makes me wonder what the real Lizel is like and if the otherworld king wants him back to make sure he does not get too wild.

Poor theatre guy btw.

Yeah, I was both surprised and disappointed that they went with the obvious, and lampshading it by making it his dimwitted henches' idea didn't make it better.

Lizzie certainly has some interesting powers. I think snake boy will be joining his harem rather than being any sort of adversary, and he's had too much character development to just disappear from the plot.
