Absolutely dire that they whiffed Naruto. Totoro I understand, but Naruto? Come on.

$1000 on AoT is kind of silly since it's an extremely well known show.

Knowing Death Note and AoT but not Naruto is interesting.

Glad I was able to answer them all but I’m still shocked nobody knew who Naruto was. Seems like a failure on their part.

Yeah, the placements of the titles included felt really random, as Totoro was easily the "least" known of those five (it's beloved, but nowhere near the first Ghibli movie most people would think of) & should have been in the $1000 spot.
Nobody knowing who Naruto was via a literal still image was honestly hilarious, though.

Ah nice to see Jeopardy diving into anime category once again. Also, how on earth did the contestant not know what Naruto is despite it's mainstream status???

Most non-fans, especially those who are trying to win a quiz show, will go down the anime rabbit hole through Miyazaki's films and the 3 three that probably have the most significance are Totoro, Spirited Away, and now The Boy and The Heron. (Totoro because of the title critter and the others because they've won Oscars.)
I think this is at least the 2nd time Attack on Titan has shown up in a major tournament. I think the audacious premise and that meme from Episode 1 really lodged it in the question writers' memory.

Even though they whiffed on Naruto (which was surprising since I would have figured they'd blow the Totoro one) it still shows how much more mainstream anime has gotten. I feel like even as recently as a decade ago, you'd have seen contestants fail to get even one correct answer. I mean, given how the game works I'm still sure you could see contestants fail to get one depending on who the 3 contestants are, but just seeing that multiple people on the show got answers instead of like, one dude who's more into anime speaks to how more people just know the subject.

Still perplexes me that they didn't get Naruto but some of the other questions. Like what? Especially since its an image question. No excuse there.
