Felt the grades on the visual were a little harsh, but I can't dispute anything else Richard said in this review. I ultimately gave it one of its season's lower grades, too.

it also shows on one of my pet peeves being accurate! just like with a multitude of LN adaptations, especially if their from the kadokawa umbrella have a nasty tendency to leave out a lot of material from their anime adaptations in order to meet the 12 ep one season only limit unless the sales of that series is on god tier levels ala tensura, mushoku tensei or frieren

I think the grades are on point though. I remember the show's visuals being degraded after it took a 1-week break. Even the non-action intensive parts of the show sometimes have poor drawing quality.

I have a weakness for cute girls doing their best so the show more or less one me over through that alone but it was always surreal how they kept trying to push Tina, her story, and relationship with Allen when the author clearly made Lydia so charismatic and compelling together with Allen that it's a wonder she's not the actual Main Heroine.

It's like you'd rather watch a show just about Allen and Lydia...than the stuff the show is actually about.

I still more or less enjoyed it though.

I love the novels, I've read all the ones out in English, but the show was terrible. It adapted the first three books (and some weird filler) which are basically the "intro" books. The real plot kicks in right after the show cuts off, expanding the world and lore significantly and providing some actual character development (particularly for Allen and Lydia, who really need it at that point).

The series isn't a generic fantasy series once you get further in. It has a lot of neat ideas. But none of that is in this anime.
