Think it's very fitting for the production overall that they said "we'll let you know in February" and then took until the second to last day of February in Japan to figure something out

Exactly what I was thinking. I really hope it doesn’t get delayed for the umpteenth time yet again… it’s been almost five years since this was formally announced…

I get there's a lot of drama behind the scenes for this, but GOD. They better understand that it can all be worth it if they release this to as many theaters worldwide as possible. There's no reason to hold back the movie's release from the rest of the world for any amount of time after it releases for a few weeks(1 month max) in Japan.

Japanese are punctual, notoriusly so. they will literally wait till the last minute if a delay is needed as they do everything they can to meet a deadline. Another example is that new evangelion short they just showed. they working on it till the day it actually aired as they wraped the last animation bit right before they showed it.

What they actually mean is: "The next postponement will be announced on 28 August"
