lol, I follow that app and I read the first chapter when it came out! The series didn't catch my attention so I didn't keep with it, but it's interesting how this kind of news which normally for most people (or even me if I didn't decide to follow that app) would cause no reaction, but in my case I have (even if minimally). Kind of like when recently an author there tragically died so they had to stop the series.
Anyway, regardless, I don't know the exact details of what was plagarized, but I pity the editor and the author of the original novels. |

Media copying off each other and not being entirely original? What a surprise. In other news, the sky is blue! [/this is sarcasm]
Anyway, don't editors exist to catch these types of things before print? I mean it's not all they do, but it is part of the job. Last edited by Kruszer on Fri Apr 03, 2026 4:18 pm; edited 1 time in total |

If it's stuff like copying panels or poses from other works, it's impossible for editors to be able to get everything, especially if they're copying especially niche works. It's one thing to copy something super well known that'd be easy to pick up on (eg Bleach etc), but completely different to copy some random small artist's work. There's been a few cases of this sort of thing happening and some mangaka can go years copying other work before they eventually get caught (usually by the readers recognising something). |

I do sometimes wonder just how much plaigerism is out there that we just never see. I suspect the actual number would either be much higher -- more much lower than we might expect. Because most of the time when you hear about a situation like this, the material being "copied" is relatively mainstream. It makes you want to ask the person who did it, "how on earth did you think you'd ever get away with this?" So it can be easy to assume there's a huge number of people plagiarizing lesser-known artists out there... but at the same time, I think the personality-type who thinks it's okay to steam other artists' work overlaps an awful lot with the kind of incurious, apathetic sort who wouldn't really ever expose themselves to more niche media in the first place. Like the laziness and contempt for your audience and peers that leads one to plagiarize in the first place likewise prevents them from being well-versed in whatever genre-space they occupy. |

Apparently one of the pages copied was from Snow White with the Red Hair, which is, while not insanely well known, still definitely a case of "why did you think no one would notice???"

Especially since both manga would presumably share readers with similar interests. |

I'm looking and there's enough small changes that I don't think anyone would notice unless they read the two chapters right after one another. And it's not like a super distinctive panel or anything, this is like the easiest angle to draw a face and the art styles are similar. |

I don't know, sure the face could just be a coincidence if we're lenient, but the ear seems too similar.. |

Yea, I'm in agreement. This feels like an overreaction to be honest. |

I assume there was more than just that one panel |
