Awkward is a decent word for how it handled being a harem series. Season 1 acted like it was going to be like a lot of other harem series where it teases it but nobody does the deed. Here, the main thing stopping the main couple is that they feel like it wouldn't be fair to the other wives, but then after it happens, everyone is like, "Oh well." It's weird to have all the talk of needing to gain power by strengthening bonds, and then you have things like the water princess actually saying out loud that she knows Satou doesn't have those feelings for her.

I don't know, it feels like somewhere in there ideas of what type of story this was changed, and then it had to stumble towards a conclusion with some baggage.

I had this one rated a bit higher, but generally agree with the comments and criticisms in the review; frankly, Satou never becoming a satisfying protagonist was the biggest disappointment for me. At least this one tells a complete story and shares at least a little bit of What Happens After.

The 2nd season was somehow worse than the first and that wasn't a very high bar either. 1st season had some promise about a grand adventure as they go through the harem collection but then spent most of their time trying to figure everything out.

I guess I'm the only one who thought Season 2 was a big step up from 1, in both the story and lewdness department, lol. Anime smile + sweatdrop
Heck, we even got to have a sex scene storyboarded by Shigeyasu Yamauchi!

But I get that a lot of people have really particular expectations of this type of harem series, and this series opted to kind of do its own thing instead. In that sense, I respect it.

I did think that aspect was weird. Some pretty extended time on training arcs, and then it was already time for the final battle. Considering how most of it was, as you said, trying to figure out what they were doing, it seemed hard for me to believe that they were immediately going to take on the big bad.
