Nice to know it’s 2026 and Magneto is still causally being portrayed as a villain.

Same with Osborne.

Doctor Doom invited Magneto so it wouldn’t look like he was specifically going after Spidey.

One team left, and the story apparently involves the Champion of the Universe.

I mean with Osborn its less egregious cause he actually has been a villain for the majority of his history.

Him being a "hero" is only an extremally recent status quo based on a contrived story device of having his sins absorbed which isn't exactly a popular story development to begin with.

That was retconned to never actually happened. All so we can have Mephisto shenanigans being the root cause of Norman’s villainy.

As far as I'm concerned that stupid retcon is non canon. I swear the entire marvel comic line needs a proper reboot or something.

As for the game it looks fantastic. I don't have a ps5 and never wanted one but this game is tempting me to buy one

Honestly I don't care what's been retconned away or what current Marvel says never happened or actually happened. The classic/good era of Marvel is all I care about and what most good games are going to be based on since they're the most well known iterations and stories for the characters so Green Goblin and Magneto are villains regardless whatever current story or event in some comics say.

I'm worried Doom stole his logo from DooM, the videogame. (Neeeeeeerd.)

Which becomes funny when they’re adjacent to other games where characters like Magneto aren’t villains like Rivals.

Not to mention taking a character back to an era in their history that’s out of date even in another continuity contradicts an argument that fans have made towards people who become involved in writing or editing stories in the source material involving these characters.

Magneto has been a hero, or at least on the hero's side, for more than 20 years. And he spent most of the 80s as a hero as well. That's well beyond "current story."

Just for some perspective 20 years ago at this point is 2006 which is well past the time a lot of old school fans stopped reading and well into what many consider to be the 'modern' era of comics. 2006 would be after House of M which killed off 99% of the mutant population in the Marvel universe which means a lot of X-Men fans probably dipped out when all their favorite characters died or got depowered. That's about when I stopped reading anyway. I think I stuck it out until Civil War but after that, well, all manga for me from then on.

Magento is the mutant supremacist who wants to eradicate humans in my eyes so any attempt that redeeming him comes off very funny.

As far as the Mass Market who do not read the comics are concerned, Magneto is the villain they've seen in all those X-Men movies and cartoons and games they remember.

Heck, even us 90's-2000's or earlier comic readers dropped out of current comics as far back as 20 years.

The fact that characters and their histories are such a topsy turvy mess of storylines is why hardly anyone can easily get into Marvel/DC Comics and why manga is dominating.

So Green Goblin and Magneto will always be baddies. At best, tragic or relatable ones. But antagonists none the less.
