Nice. I figured that people were waiting for the broadcast to be over before announcing this, but I don't think that they needed to.

The message from Watanabe Ayumu pretty strongly implies he's returning as director for season 2. The whole team did an amazing job so I'm happy with anyone who sticks around[/img]

Ha, it would have been a real pisser if they didn't continue, given the ending of season one. Good times for anime fans.

This felt like a given but I'm glad it was confirmed.

It ended on a really huge cliffhanger so this is welcome news.

Shirahama also announced today that the manga has reached 9 million copies in circulation, up from 7.5 at the start of the anime broadcast: https://x.com/shirahamakamome/status/2071608287703777319

One season covered four volumes. There are 16 volumes out in Japan (14 in the US), so there’s probably three more seasons now, and will probably be material for a fourth by the time they’re done with what’s available now.

Oh, and at the end of v14, Coco is still in her first year as an apprentice!

If so, I’d like him off Akanebanashi. I understand that he’s normally very hands-off during production, but I can’t shake off the feeling that him directing both works in the same time frame compromises visual quality (mostly for Akanebanashi).
Of course, the fact that Crunchyroll has already announced they’ll be streaming WHA season 2, and that Akanebanashi is set to broadcast in January 2027, doesn’t quell my paranoia that the latter won’t get the short end of the stick again.

I'm pretty happy on how they anime adapted the first 4 volumes of the manga so a season 2 is a big welcome for me.

Think Akane-banashi's issues stemmed from more than just Watanabe being hands off or having split priorities (though the one episode he did storyboard for the show was the worst-looking episode of them all)

But as for WHA, this announcement taking a week with no clear time-frame tells me about all I need to know lol

The Japanese TV broadcast was one episode behind the release on streaming services the whole season because it didn't start with two episodes at once. Promotion always prioritized the former and kinda just pretended people online weren't always an episode ahead. The S2 announcement appeared right at the end of the TV broadcast of the final episode, they didn't just wait a week for no reason.

Not surprising but I was hoping Bug Films would first produce another season of Zom 100.

Why would they? WHA is way bigger, and Zom 100 barely made a splash there. It didn't even get to have a domestic home video release.
