I recently received a region free DVD player for Christmas.
The main reason for the DVD player was to buy legal anime from other countries and avoid the horrible bootlegs that have been destroying the industry.
I found out quite quickly that many authentic Japanese DVD's (region 2) DON'T have English subtitles on them, but DVD's from Hong Kong (region 3) DO have English subtitles.
This surfaced A LOT of questions....seeing a lot of bootlegs with English subtitles are on the market.

One of the films I've been searching for (One Stormy Night) I found on a region 3 DVD HERE: http://www.dvdasian.com/_e/Japan/product/23246/Stormy_Night_Special_Edition_Region_3_2_DVD_.htm

...however, many of the other DVD's on this website look suspiciously like bootlegs.

My question to you is this:
ARE there any reliable websites that have region 2 and 3 films with English subtitles on the DVD's?
Is this site reliable?
....and How can I tell an actual DVD from a bootleg....even if it does come from China instead of Japan?

The only problem is that I the picture of the DVD box is too small for me to check if it's a bootleg or not....

The picture on DVD Asian matches that of the R3 copy available from Yesasia. It's cheaper from the latter, in case you're interested.

Bootlegs, you'd think that they're always eassy to spot... but you'd be wrong. I've had a few cases where I had a problem telling if it was a bootleg or not. Bootlegers are getting really profesional to try to trick the poeple. Makeing the boxes look like the really deal, to trick the consumer. For me, it's gotten to the point where I only buy it if I know that it's a reliable source of purchesing. Other wise I think it's just to much of a risk.
