Heya
I was just wondering which dub people though was better - the Disney dub or the original ebglish dub as found on the Region 2 2-disc Japanese DVD? I have ordered the latter from a website, but am now having doubts as to the quality...anyone that has heard both, please give me your opinions on them. Im not a fan of orginal Japanese dubs so please dont suggest that Wink The reason I ordered the Japanese one is so that it will play on my R2 player.

Thanks all.

Most of us won't know until the end of August, when the new My Neighbor Totoro DVD is released.

I don't have the old dub on DVD, but I have it on LaserDisc, which was insanely expensive back in the day, and the LD was dub-only. But it's a very good dub by 1994 standards.

I don't think they've released much in the way of specifics yet, but it's a 2-disk set, as with all the Disney Ghibli releases (not counting the original Miramax Princess Mononoke DVD), and it will have the widescreen version and, at the very least, the Japanese audio and the new dub with the Fanning sisters. I don't know anything about Disney putting on existing Spanish or French dubs at this point.

I was lucky to get the Twentieth Century Fox dub on DVD when Disney didn't have the rights to it yet. I liked that dub, it fit well and the voices were spot on for the characters. I won't be getting the Disney dub as well, because to me, that would be redundant. Wink

Presumably it's the old Troma/Fox dub on the Region 2... the new dub with the Fanning sisters was recorded long after the Region 2 Totoro DVD was released in Japan.

The R2 has the Tokuma dub, Troma was merely the theatrical distributor of the title, and are not responsible for mucking that up either as they were following Tokuma's instructions
