Well, I still haven't picked them up yet but I do want to be sure about one thing. When it comes to Viz, I go for the second prints because I'm not a fan of the larger format, flipped. With Nausicaa, I noticed the second prints have the cover picture cropped into the middle, while it's spread out in the original. But, when I actually FOUND one still in a store, I realized it wasn't in graphic novel format, but a large book with few pages? This was the second print, but for some reason I expected them to be normal manga sized...
Is this larger format the only option in buying it? |

Nausicaä has always been printed on larger pages, even in Japan. So yeah, no Tokyopop-style DVD-sized volumes for Nausicaä.

There were pamphlets (VIZ Select Comics, VSC), Graphic Novel (GN), Perfect Collection (PC), and Editor's Choice Edition. Go for the last one.
I'm not so sure about it though; there's an annotation on this page.

Ah interesting, because with some pics I have seen I was SURE it came in tankouban format.
VIZ Perfect Collection (PC) "Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind" 1-4 I was skeptical on, since on a few reveiws it made it sound like it was only HALF of the collection, rather than all the books condensed into 4 volumes. Although, I'm not a fan of the bigger styled books, so maybe the Perfect Collection would be a choice for me, knowing that it IS in fact the complete set... I guess I shouldn't believe reviewers all the time^^ |

The Editor's Choice and Studio Ghibli Library editions (the former are just re-branded reprints of the latter) are unflipped but they're still large format (26x18cm). Which is, of course, a good thing.

I read the 4 volumed version.
I really liked those. But I'm pretty sure they're quite hard to get now as the bigger versions are the ones selling now. |

I've got a couple volumes of the perfect collection, but have been looking to trade them in for un-flipped editions. Now I don't know if I still want to if they're smaller because I really like the large format.

But the unflipped editions aren't smaller. The current edition is actually bigger than the Perfect Collection edition. |

The new edition also retains the original brown tones of the manga, which, I may be wrong, but I believe the other editions do not feature. I'm pretty sure they are printed in black tones. Also, the hardcovers are VERY hard to find.
