I started buying anime again about 4 months ago after a 4 year hiatus (primarily due to going to university and cash constraints etc). It's not unfair to say that I went a little anime crazy after buying the DVD boxset of cowboy bebop and saw just how much anime had improved\changed for the better.
The first thing I did 4 months ago was to come here and ask what were good anime series to start off the obsession again and got a lot of help from users here (thanks by the way). Since then I've brought the following: Cowboy Bebop DVD boxset perfect sessions, Trigun DVD boxset, Outlaw Star DVD box set, Escaflowne DVD boxset, Now and Then, Here & There DVD Boxset, Tench Muyo OVA and TV Universe DVD boxsets, Blue Seed DVD boxset & Excel Saga vol.1 DVD (and I'll be getting the rest) Now & Then was my last purchase and I loved it. The story, the stark reality & the way it pulls no punches is amazing and unlike a lot of anime. Now I ask the wise board members here once again for any suggestions on other anime series to see. (neon genesis and Nadesico are showing here in the UK on TV at the mo so not them although i'll but genesis on dvd after the series ends, i've also got a fansubbed copy of Hellsing on vcd and i've seen the 1st 2 series of kenshin). I await you're suggestions. Thanks. |

Well, if you liked Tenchi you'll like Tenchi GXP and Love Hina. If you like Hellsing, maybe you should see Witch Hunter Robin, they're not that much alike but you'll probably like it.

You'll probably want one or the other of the Bubblegum Crisis series, (the original or 2040, your pick.) I'd say Gunsmith Cats is a good purchase. I'm not one-hundred percent sure about the release in England, but the Chobits release is coming up soon and that's a good one if you liked Tenchi. THe same can be said for Love Hina, although if you don't like subs, it can be murder since the dub was pretty slapdash. (the characters all seem a bit off, except for Mitsune who is WAAAAY off, since they dubbed her with a heavy Southern drawl, but it isn't too bad after a while) And while you're at it, GET SOME GUNDAM!!!! There's plenty to choose from, lord knows. Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 should be in any otaku's collection just for sheer historical value. Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories is beautiful and bittersweet. Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS team is possibly the best for all out action (and is one of the few Gundam series that don't hide the romance). Gundam Wing oozes with style and is one of the easiest to get into since you don't need advanced knoweledge about the Gundam universe to watch it. (it's a whole different timeline than the series I've mentioned so far) G Gundam is hell for any Gundam fan, but can be fun for anyone else (NeoMexico , represented by the Tequila Gundam, arriba!) It's easy to love Gundam. Plus the model kits are sweet! Hope I've been of some help. |

Very true about the Gundams. If you wanted to see some episodes of some gundam series before buying it, watch adult swim on cartoon network, althought cartoon network modifies it some what. Also, get the movie ninja scroll because its an awesome movie. But if after watching ninja scroll and you thought ju bei was awesome and you see a movie called ninja resurrection, ju bei's revenge, do not get that. Also try some Rurouni Kenshin, eva, and Inu Yasha if you do not already have them.

well, if you love gunplay, such as myself, you'll love the new series ADV is working on it's called Noir.
So, be sure to watch Noir, and lots of it, 'cause it's beyond badass. |

Noir is boring too. I'd suggest buying the first DVD and then pretending that it ends there.
The series that you said you bought are so generic; they are common favorites among many, many anime viewers. I myself like most of them. You need to go out on a limb and see where your tastes lie. All the time, people come to the board saying "I saw cowboy bebop and trigun! They are great, what else can I see?"... and besides my first reaction which is "damnit, they are not alike at all" I basically think that this poor fool is out of luck, because *everyone* likes those series. Anyway, if you like Tenchi you'll probably like Hand Maid May and Love Hina. Thats about all I can tell you, because nothing else you like gives off any information about your "tastes". Other than that, I'm sorry to say that you've basically run out of the types of shonen stuff that you've been buying; theres not much more to get thats like the series you bought. I highly, highly recommend trying Oh! my goddess; I've found that this its the best way to ween someone off of the norm and go towards interesting new directions. Now that this has been said; time for obligatory favorites that really don't mean anything to you: Kodomo no Omocha, Hana Yori Dango and Marmalade Boy. Heh, yeah right. Good luck finding stuff you'll like. |

Ignore morons who call Noir "boring" (among other things). They don't know what they are talking about. But it doesn't come out on DVD until February anyway.
Give FLCL a try, I've heard good things about it. Aside from that, it looks like you got everything I could recommend (though knowing what genre you're looking for would help). |

Except that's exactly what it is. ;) Reminds me kinda of Hot Shots Part Deux, with the death counter they used to make it the most violent movie, ever. :) Noir might have a plot somewhere in the midst of the continual carnage, but I can't imagine what it is. It probably involves killing more people, anyway. I could just click a counter a few dozen times and imagine everyone dying (like this one) if i wanted to save myself the trouble of watching Noir. :p |
