Doroemon is huge not only in Japan, but in China, as well as other Asian countrys. Im not sure if there ever was a manga, but there was several TV series, and its a gigantic marketing product

Yes, Doreamon was based on a (daily? weekly?) comic strip. I've seen a couple episodes of the TV series, it's pretty fun in a kid's cartoon way.

I bought the hard back cover reprint of Doraemon in Japanese. Since I cannot read Japanese, I cannot comment on the story, but the artwork is terrible.

Yes, Doraemon is huge, especially in Asia. Other than Japanese, they translated in Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and many other languages. It's really a classic story since my uncle grew up reading doraemon manga (classic like the Peanut comic strip for American). I seen some of the episode when I was young and I thought it was very good for a children's show. Here's a good site on Doraemon's description. http://www.nephco.com/doraemon/ Last edited by darkhunter on Thu Jul 22, 2004 6:05 pm; edited 1 time in total |

How old is Doraemon? My friend from Taiwan said that he has manga dating back to 1982, and its was popular back than too.

The Doraemon manga was originally released in Japanese but there is an Rnglish version except it's out of print and really hard to find.

1973, it's old. Older than gundam.
I don't remember an English version, unless it's a bootleg. The only real legit manga is the Japanese ones. |

Doraemon was born "in" Shôgakukan in 1970, not in 1973. Its authors are "Fujiko-Fujio", the same couple of "Ninja Hattori-kun", "Ghost Qtaro", "ESPer Mami" and so on. There are two antimated series about this robot-cat, the last began in 1979 and is yet on TV (2004). There are also more than 30 animated full-length films about Doraemon, the first from 1980 and the last from 2004. And there is also an spin-off, entitled "Dorami-chan", starring a femenine version of Doraemon, which have his own animated films and comics, too.

According the Encyclopedia, it said 1969, not 1970. 1973 is when the anime first aired.
