I fail to see how this has anything to do with Physics.

Perhaps starting a new column on anime physics would have been better served by discussing the actual subject.

Goku's instant transmission vs. the Theory of Relativity
Evanglelion's impressive power tethers (just try and estimate the amperage that must be required and the heat they must generate)
Naruto's Kagebunshin vs. conservation of energy.

Or now that I think about it, any shounen character vs. conservation of energy Smile

Or you could just not worry about it and enjoy it for what it is. We'll probably see something like what you want at some point.

My pride as an PhD'd Physicist demands recourse!

Real world nose bleed vs Anime nose bleed.
Since I didn't know where to start I stated the obvious, just like the article.

So thanks for the reminder.

I'm a little disappointed no one's mentioned Yamato Nadesico Shichihenge's (a.k.a. The Wallflower) Sunako, whose face seems to explode in a fountain of blood everytime she's confronted with one of her bishounen housemates (it got to be a bit much in the anime, I thought).

I've gotten sudden nosebleeds a few times growing up. I do have a variety of allergies though I don't think they were the cause. I vaguely remember associating it with warm weather.. or maybe just playing/physical activity.

They touched on it, it just wasn't called by name. I believe it falls under the category of "immediately and blood begins to trickle, shoot, or explode out his nostrils as a result."

Maybe in Japan there is a severe lack of iron in the diet and sudden oncoming of stress or hypertension results in nosebleeds.

That happened to me a lot when I was a kid. Not the stress part, but the nosebleed part.

I second samuelp's concerns, though I shall also say that I have had similar experiences to configspace. When the weather suddenly became warm this year, I found my nostril shedding blood on numerous occasions without any apparent stimulus. Coincidentally enough, one of these occasions was in the middle of a physics final.

Then there's also Maria+Holic's Kanako - who as well as suffering extravagant nosebleeds also demonstrates Newton's law of every action having an equal and opposite reaction. When blood spurts out of her nose at high pressure, the force causes her to fall backwards.

See. I did manage to get some physics in here!

Laws of anime #40

When sexually aroused, males in Anime don't get erections, they get nosebleeds. No one's sure why this is, though... the current theory suggests that larger eyes means smaller sinuses and thinner sinus tissue. Females don't get nosebleeds, but invariably get one heck of a blush along the cheeks and across the nose, suggesting a lot of bloodflow to that region.
