I think the anime has more scene that aren't in the manga but If you read the manga first before you watch the anime (like me Smile ) I'm sure you would like the manga better.

Honestly? The reason why some people dislike Dragonball is because they felt the whole series was dragged out too much.

So if you're afraid of the series being dragged out, then just go read the manga. It covers all the points quicker then the anime, and doesn't drag out everything as much.

The manga actually has some semblance of pacing, and it cuts out all the filler garbage like the Garlic Jr. Arc. I'd say go with the manga.

Defenitley the manga. The whole snake way thing ends in less than like 2 chapters while Goku in the anime has to fall down, and put up with Princess Snake and stuff. Plus, the fights are cut down by at least a third.

Gotta go with the manga, for pretty much everything that has already been mentioned, plus the fact that sometimes in the anime the animation can get extremely bad, but with the manga the art is great. Plus if you get the english translation of the Buu Saga when it comes out, Akira Toriyama completely redrew the chapters for it's american release.

That's what i heard anyway.

As an american anime fan living in a place where no one knows what anime is, I grew up on DBZ every Saturday/Sunday on the Kids WB.

Other kids went to church, I got to watch DBZ. Razz

I've never read the manga and dont plan on it anytime soon. But then again I dont really like DBZ anymore either. heh.

I would check that source again if I were you, because that's totally not true. What Toriyama actually did was draw a new ending, not for the American release, but he did draw a new ending for the kanzenban rerelease in Japan. Either someone heard that and turned it into "he redrew the entire Buu saga for America," or they just totally made it up.

...So, what did Toriyama do with the new ending?

It's only a few pages long. If I recall correctly, Daizenshuu EX (http://www.daizex.com) had scans of it.

The story in the anime went a lot slower than the manga. The anime had a lot of filler like Nagisa said. I've read some of the manga in monthly Shonen Jump. I usually like the anime better in most cases and I'm going to say the anime was better in my personal preference. You can get more emotion and feeling from the anime.
