Really? I mean, I like the Sora no Otoshimono anime, don't get me wrong, but I really don't see it as being worthy of a feature film. It's largely just fanservice fluff. I guess some studio heads see more merit in it than I do.

I doubt they care about how good of a movie its going to be, or if the story deserves a movie... The series does very well financially, and that's all that matters.

Why are you comparing this to K-on?

Strike Witches maybe.
Mai Otome Sifr maybe.

but K-on?

The Movie will cover Chaos, else which is Chaos's voice commenting on the movie.

so its not going to be about light music clubs. I'd going to be about fanservice girls blowing stuff up. With beamspam.

Exactly. It always amuses me when people question the business acumen of what gets made. I fully understand somebody saying, "I don't dig Sora no Otoshimono and therefore I don't care if a movie gets made or not." What I don't understand is somebody saying, "Gee, why is this getting made?" It's almost as if some people think there is a correlation between what they personally deem as "worthy" and what might make money. Sucks when the two aren't the same thing, but it happens.

You're kidding right? What the hell for? Why a damn theatrical film? I can understand a OVA but a film? Really?

There must be a promotion for flying panties again. If you go see it you get some limited edition panty set. Well...this is...a surprise. Well, hell if we can keep pumping out crappy movies then why can't a panty series get a movie. Tell me if this is a first in anime history. Razz

Since you can't figure it out on your own, let me help you: because they think it will make money. Let me know if there are any other "hard" questions that elude your understanding and I'll see if I can make it comprehensible for you.

I'd say it's highly likely to just be a compilation film.

Not if you're going by sales.

K-ON! averaged about 40-50k first week sales per volume.
Strike Witches averaged about 12-15k first week sales per volume.
Sora no Otoshimono averaged about 4-6k first week sales per volume.

SnO definitely does not deserve a movie any more than say, Saki, does.

It's really about the marketability of the franchise as opposed to the DVD/BD sales. SoraOto has visually unique characters and a mildly enjoyable premise, this is ripe for figures and toys. Not to mention we don't know the success of the manga, so that surely has a role to play in how it's popularity is being judged.

Also, given the pace that the second season is moving at, the movie will likely be the Hiyori arc which is quite short and with a remarkably endearing story, relative to the rest of SoraOto.

I guess for someone who has never seen any bishoujo anime before???
When I think "visually unique" I think of something like Haibane Renmei. Not something that just looks like your run-of-the-mill bishoujo game/anime.
