Oh Russia, you still have child sex tourism, you're so funny.

Anyway, this is a prime example of why religion should never be able to dictate real policy that affects the rest of the citizenry. It's hard enough in the States to keep the crazies down, we don't need other countries setting precedents.

I find when it funny when somebody says that Russia is a secular country.

If Ikki Tousen is child pornography, you can get nearly any ecchi series as child pornography.

Wouldn't a large portion of recent anime be banned for including "close-ups of the lower half of female bodies?" That's such a common directorial ploy that I hardly even notice it anymore. I once observed how Shinbo liked to shoot the girls in Madoka Magica from street level, though never revealing their underwear, and was considered prudish for even mentioning it. In general I thought he was pretty restrained in his direction for Madoka and never pushed the loli button like he did in Vampire Bund.

Having just re-watched a few episodes of Haruhi the other day, the same technique appears from time to time in that show as well, and that was made half-a-dozen years ago.

The Soviet Union hated religion, how could they have anything to do with this?

Not when the Eastern Orthodox Church is likely in on this, but I do have my doubts that the opposite of the USSR in ultra-conservative Vladimir Putin hasn't.

Funny how you say that when Soviet Union was very religious country.Their religion was called communism.
And he was referring to the fact that there is essentially a dictatorship in Russia.

I can't quite parse that sentence. Are you suggesting a Russian conservative wouldn't want to bring back the USSR?

The Television 2X2 channel plans to edit some of its animation lineup, including the Itchy & Scratchy segments within The Simpsons.

Interesting...
Different circumstances, of course, but still interesting.

I'm going to presume that you were referring to me?

I could say two different things: a.) Russian conservatism = Russian communism (having lasted for 75 years) and therefore argue that Putin being a conservative individual wants communism's existence in political Russia, or b.) Russian conservatism = traditional right-wing values (no explanation necessary).

However, when I think of Russian conservatism, I prefer a pre-Lenin approach, being that the Romanov monarchy lasted for nearly 300 years prior to the Bolshevik insurgency. So when I say Putin is the opposite of the USSR, it's in that he acts more akin to a monarch, or in more hammer-like ways too, Josef Stalin, than Vladimir Lenin, in my opinion.

So for my answer: I can't answer yes or no that question, as it's just a bit too ambiguous, but I do think Putin is more focused on right-wing ideologies than those associated with the USSR.

Although I don't watch Ikki Tousen, I think it's rediculous for the anime to be dismissed by protestors as containing child pornography elements when child pornography laws regarding animation (if not mistaken) state that child pornagraphy applies to if the sexualized character possesses the voice and appearance of a minor, not if the character is said to be under 18; the female fighters of Ikki Tousen look like adults in terms of body shape and physique.

As a person who watches The Simpsons, I can be thankful I'm not living in Russia otherwise it would suck for me to not get to the watch the show uncut. Why do I get this crazy feeling the Russians aren't realizing The Simpsons wasn't really intended to be a kiddy show from the start while attempting to censor its Itchy and Scratchy parts? To hell with those censors! Times like this I wish I was the DC Comics super-hero Hal Jordan so I could perform the Zero Hour effect to remove this tragic event from happening.
