Well besides hentai lol, they don't like Elfen lied Sad as much as I do. To me that series is like a homage to frankenstein and Carrie or maybe thats just me.

Hmm....it's not that no one likes these, and they're not perfect or brilliant or anything, but they seem rather underappreciated: NieA_7, Nazca, RG Veda (ova).

I think I would have to say, Alien Nine and A Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar. I think Alien Nine was a fairly deceptive anime that lured in the wrong audience that might have thought it would be cute and funny, but ended up hating the anime because it was far from it. I think the type of people that would generally like Alien Nine would take one look at the box art and then move on to the next title. Overall, I found Alien Nine very enjoyable as a weird little title that I assume is overlooked by most anime fans.

A Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar is one of the few hyper-cute anime titles that were sold in the U.S. I didn't want to purchase this series at first when I saw a preview of the opening. It was sickeningly cute and it seemed obvious that someone like me would not want to go near this series. Well, after a while, the cutesy opening with the catchy song actually got to me and I just decided to purchase the entire series. I wanted to have a good variety of anime anyway. I have watched almost the entire series and I definitely consider A Tiny Snow Fairy Sugar one of my favorite anime series. I am aware that this is not a very popular anime series in the U.S. because U.S. anime fans mostly don't go for overly "cute" anime. I would consider this series a "guilty pleasure" that I enjoyed much more than I thought I would.

I'm pretty idiosyncratic in my anime taste. Generally, I have a few shows nobody else is interested in. I'll rent/watch/buy as I see fit. Here are some examples--

Any Shintoesqe show that involves possesion by Kami-- Examples: Gasaraki, Aquarian Age, Shrine of the Morning Mist, Ceres, Eight Clouds Rising. Reason why is because IRL I've seen and know about this type of thing done here in U.S. in several different cultural contexts. Obviously, not a common shared experince.

Watching shows like this is kind of like an Archealogist watching Indiana Jones or The Mummy or a Martial Artist enjoying Wire Fuu; a guilty pleasure.

Arjuna--I know it's preachy, but I like that they try to talk about some serious stuff. Of course, I've joked about being the only fan of this show. That seems a good way to handle it when friends say "what?"

Kino's Journey-- Again lots of cool ideas, much better handled then Arjuna.

I'll admit to watching all of NeoRanga and thinking, cool concept, wish they had a decent script writer, especially for the second half. I think there are a lot of substandard shows like that.

All the Best,

Nani?

Some of the more "off the beaten path" shows in my collection are Sentimental Journey and Seraphim Call. They're both girly and FluffyCute, but they break the mold by being almost completely episodic. They're both 12 episode series (I bought them blind, and on the cheap) that present 12 separate stories about separate characters. Actually, SC's 12th episode is an epilogue ep that brings all 11 of the other characters together. Seraphim Call is also fairly inventive in its story-telling--one episode is seen from a stuffed animal's perspective, two episodes are essentially the same episode, seen from the perspective of two twins. The 11th is about a girl whose inner world is so closed off that she is the only character seen in the episode. The themes are typical girly/shoujo stuff like being nervous around men, growing up, sibling relations, femininity issues, etc. It's set in a futuristic 2010 on an artificial island city, so there's technology and giant robots thrown in, too. There's even an episode that manages to be about pi.

Sentimental Journey is more of a straight up romance/lost love show, and watching it, you'll wonder just how many boys can suddenly transfer away to other high schools. Still, I'd recommend either of these, especially because you can get a 12-episode series (both are Japanese-language only) for about $20. Just do a search these shows on amv.org--you'll see virtually nothing involving them.

Well i also like Little snow fairy also... this anime doesn;t have astounding graphic or insane action... it's just a simple little show that bring my back to my youth... Smile

I've watched it both in sub and dub... and i really like Michelle Ruff dubbing... i mean i enjoyed most of her work... tsukihime, gto, Ai Yori aoshi and many many more Smile

There is another serie that i really enjoyed but somehow seem pretty unpopular is Argento Soma... i think that most people tend to overly compare that serie with Eva... although they seem a lot alike... but both serie focus on different points...and if you actually watched this serie for what it is, you'll find it surprisingly good Smile

I rented this show and really enjoyed it, particularly the "Violin", "Train trip", and "Buddhist" episodes. It's very much slice of life. It's also one of those shows that you can pick up a lot of little details about what modern Japan is really like. FYI: I'm a guy.

Also, I always thought of Crest/Banner as a fairly popular show. One of my favorite concepts I ever saw on this website was replaceing our current government with the Abh Empire.

Forgot to mention Figure 17, really good, meloncholy show.

All the Best,

Nani?

I'm pretty much the only Area 88 OAV fan in my circle of friends, and in fact I really can't recall too many people in here talking about the series, either.

Which is a shame, because Area 88 is one of the best aerial combat series out there, period. I wish the DVD release of the new TV series would stop getting pushed back, though.

For me it's Knight Hunters and Knight Hunters Eternity.. Just something about the stories, and all the angst that drew me in. The Eternity part was much better drawn, however. But what the characters go through from start to finish and how each had their own demons in their past to drive them to be Weis. Most people I know who like anime like the happier series.

well Rozen Maiden is widely loved and Kino's Travels is widely held as a masterpiece. So I would NOT say that nobody else likes them.

Well, I know of some people on this forum who dislike Iria and a couple of people I know dont like Full Metal Panic because of Konome's...interesting personality. I know of another who doesn't like Cromartie Highschool or Robotech.
