Witch Hunter Robin...set in present-day Japan or the near future? I remember it saying present-day Japan but someone is arguing with me saying that that was just a mistake. This person is going by the Salem Witch Trials being mentioned (Something about 400 years ago...)...saying that the dates don't add up, making it take place later.
I am going by the opening line, "320 years have passed since the coven sank in the dark...", and the show ending/starting (Whichever) in 2002...making it 1682. A lot of things were going on then, not just the Salem Witch Trials...if they were going on during 1682.
Had it been a mistake made because of translation or whatever, wouldn't it be listed on this site?

I'm not sure if the Coven was ever explained. The Salem Witch Trials happened between June and September of 1692. My take on the Coven, from the opening line, is that it was a ship bound for the new world that sunk in the Atlantic before it reached Massachusetts. And I think that Methuselah was on that ship and she was the only one to survive, as she can only be killed by a fire that consumes her entire body, like Robin's power. The sinking of the Coven may have injured her and this may be the reason why she had been confined to a wheelchair.
The Coven probably sank in 1682. Ten years later the Salem Witch Trials occurred, with Methuselah being present. So the story of Witch Hunter Robin is set in present day Japan, 320 years after, "the Coven sank in the dark."

The part about the coven being symbolic or what? Is that how you took it or was there really a ship?
What coven is Methuselah supposed to be from?

That's how I took it, the way the opening line read it sounded like the Coven was a ship.

My take is that what remained of the Coven had to go "Underground" due to the Salem Witch Hunts thining out their ranks (i.e. either take their act elsewhere and hide out or not draw attention to themselves and try to hide "in the open" ). It could've taken 300+ years to rebuild themselves to what they were in the current state of affairs in WHR.
