hi,
first off, if this is in the wrong place, then mods please move it. yesterday, we recieved what seemed to be a C&D letter from Geneon, telling us to stop subbing and distributing Amaenaideyo, as they claimed they had the license now. We had no way of backing this up, i.e. we couldnt find any announcements on ANN, AoD etc. Today we had our tracker shut down, as they had been informed of 'unusual high usage' on our tracker. I know a C&D letter is not unheard of, but if anybody can confirm if Geneon has Amaenaideyo or not, that would be a great help. A copy of the email is at: [link removed because it's a fansub site] |

No, Geneon USA has never been publicly attached to the project before.
It's a somewhat odd C&D. But I can easily ask about it. No guarantees that they'll have anything to say though. -t |

I find it odd that Geneon would send a C&D for just one anime. I don't think it wasn't even that popular. But it's their legal right to do so. I hope it's licenced though since I've been watching some of it.
I didn't know licensing companies respected fansubs. That's funny considering how so many people here don't respect fansubs but the actual company they say they are hurting does respect them. |

I think there is no need to worry about it now, we are certain it is a member we recently kicked out.
he was also tried to mess with our anidb group entry, and has tried to dos me too. notice i said 'tried' there 
it would make sense for him to try this too. so personally, i believe it now to be a complete hoax! so, sorry to have caused a bit of fuss 
i guess this thread can be locked/deleted thanks for the help anyway

It should be thought to be a fake anyway by the email adress it was sent from, neh--i.e. not official Geneon email addresses.
No company information...no contact information...and no legal copyright information. Definitely fake~ Whoever wrote this was a complete idiot and knew nothing of legalities held by companies nor the fact that he/she can be sued for impersinating someone else that could damage their reputation. Hmm...arguing about legalities by breaking the law...how justifying... |

Somewhat odd? As a formal legal secretary with years of experience, not once did I ever begin a business or legal letter with "Greetings." We were alot more formal and precise than that.
The letter doesn't even read like a legit business or legal letter should. There's so much missing that Geneon or their legal reps would automatically have included. Tempest, did your contact at Geneon indicate if they're be following up on the letter? |
