Yeah, Kekkaishi takes a while to get good. I watched the anime first stripped daily, so I got caught up pretty quickly.

I didn't have that much of an issue with Pandora Heart's style of storytelling, maybe because I know (hope!) that eventually there will be a totally awesome reveal, so I'm fine with the little hints that are given in volumes like the one reviewed.

Wow, Priest sounds really interesting... I have yet to find a manhwa I could actually stand, but being a Tokyopop license...I'll probably never get around to reading/be able to find all the volumes.

and there's no recap to explain what Jack Vessalius did that makes him so freaking important.

He stopped Glen and forestalled the tragedy. It seems that thanks to him it didn't turn into anything bigger.

As for the tragedy itself, what exactly happened there is something that Oz and his friends try to figure out throughout the rest of the manga. While other questions are answered sooner, the ones concerning the tragedy of Sabrie will be the last answered. Still, here and there something is explained, but even thought I’m up-to-date with Japanese release of Pandora Hearts it is still not clear what exactly happened there. I can make a guess, based on my knowledge of the 14 volumes of Pandora Hearts, that the last arc will mirror the tragedy of Sabrie and what happened there will be revealed in this arc.

we don't find out the what or why of Alice's existence a hundred years ago,

Oh, well, this is not going to be answered any time soon either. The question who spoiler[killed] Alice is one of the most debated questions in Pandora Hearts fandom. My theory is that Jack spoiler[killed] her, because the words spoken by Alyss to Oz in the first volume sound like she mistook Oz for Jack, like when she said ‘You always come here’ and then she repeats ‘I’ll never forgive you’ if she sees Jack in Oz and Jack spoiler[killed] her that would make sense.

I just want to say that I don’t see anything wrong with this volume it introduced important elements, like the tragedy of Sabrie, hinted at some things that are developed or answered in the subsequent volumes. It leaves a lot of questions, sure, but Pandora Hearts is a mystery and you don't make a good mystery by showing all facts up front.

This isn't a story—it's a blindfolded walk down a dark path with no hope in sight.

I like this sentence, because it accurately describes the divide on Pandora Hearts. The fans enjoy that blindfolded walk because it's a surreal experience and very different from other manga.

And some people look at a page of Pandora Hearts and shout "what the hell is going on?", because it's very confusing. But again, part of the appeal.

Somehow it's reassuring to hear (read) that Maximum Ride makes as much sense thematically as a box of melted crayons; pretty to look at, sure. Entertaining if you're willing to try really, really hard, but ultimately a huge, headachy mess.

Still think I'm gonna follow Pandora Hearts. The first several volumes grabbed me and I think it has enough flair storytelling-wise to keep itself worthwhile in one form or another.

Can any other big-name convention match the ridiculawesome manga-ka lineup that was Natsume Ono and Usamaru Furuya in Toronto?

There is no way that any other big-name convention is going to compete with that!.... Shocked .....Unless someone gets about 5 Shonen Jump Manga Artists lol

I in a mood to pick up 7Billion Needles

The Priest manwha actually sounds way more interesting than the movie coming out with the same name. Perhaps I'll give it a try if I find any volumes.

(And speaking of Tokyopop Memory Lane, isn't anyone going to stand up for .hack? Since I was the one who was always bashing that franchise from Day One.)

I thought .Hack//Sign was okay, but then i lost interest. The rest of the anime and manga to follow that franchise really sucked, so I don't blame you.
