I've been interested into getting into slightly older fantasy anime, and this title seems to interest me. Is it any good? I love Jules Verne-esque stories and I'm well aware that this adaption of 20,000 Leagues is very loose, but that's fine by me. Also, are there any recently released box sets? The editions I've seen online all seem hard to come by.

I've heard from some people this is a great series.
HOWEVER, I watched the first 5 episodes of the dubbed version, and couldn't stand the horrible french-accented VAs.

Only the two box sets that were released in 2004. I own both, they are quite good and the second one includes the Nadia movie. I personally loved the series, which I watched in English and found the dub perfectly fine. Thought the French accents were fine, at least they did them, right? Check Ebay or something of the sort to find the box sets, ADV used to sell them on their website, but it looks as though they have sold out of them.

I thought the first series was a pretty good adventure . The characters are memorable and the story is interesting. This anime is inspired by a Jule's Verne novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. So, if you like the novel most likely you'd enjoy the anime series.
The second series started to get old( it's like I got my fill all from the first). Yet, the second series does explain alot and still is worth watching. Don't even bother with the movie. I honestly did not care for it.

It's one of the few series that I have enjoyed enough to purchase in R1. I thought the voices were excellent except for Jean's as his was a bit irritating at times. This title was directed by Hideaki Anno before he went on to direct NGE. If you look at Nadia you will notice a style that became an NGE trademark. Well worth searching for.

I watched the entire thing and really couldn't get into it (only reason I stayed was because it was with a group of friends and I went for the socializing). It's not an awful anime, but it felt to me like it was aimed at young children (which I'm not).
