ANN is supported by advertising, but we forbid invasive ads like:
* pop-up
* pop-under
* sound that plays when page loads

If you see such a delinquent ad on ANN, please report as much of the following information as possible:
1) a screenshot of the invasive ad
2) the "Ads by ..." line that appears above or below the invasive ad
3) the "Ads by ..." line that appears at the bottom of the page
4) The time this happenned
5) The URL on ANN where this happenned
6) the url where the ad leads when you click on it (right-click -> copy link address)

When loading up the ANN homepage I got redirected to one of those “CONGRATULATIONS YOUVE BEEN SELECTED FOR AN AMAZON GIFT CARD” sites. I didn’t click on anything, it just happened in the middle of loading the homepage. I’m on my iPad using Chrome.

This constantly happens too. If I read any page too long it just gets redirect to it. This coupled with the constant database errors on PC is enough to make me stop visiting the site altogether

Just got hit with FIVE intrusive re-directing ads when getting here... Surprisingly, they have audio too saying "congratulations" out loud.

EDIT:
OMG I have NO idea how I was even able to post that on my phone!! I got hit with TEN after this post went through! Going back to edit the post had it happen EVERY SINGLE TIME. I couldn't type anything because it kept happening! On my PC now, but I have NEVER seen it this bad on any site before!

When did the site start getting so many redirect ads? I keep getting them on my tablet and computer and its getting to be super obnoxious.

And right now I'm getting some that are demolishing my CPU and practically locking up my browser. On an i7 with 16 GB of DDR3. This is absurd.

We're looking into the redirect problem. We've narrowed down the source of the problem.

@Top Gun, can you tell me anything about the ad causing this problem ?

Unfortunately I have no idea which specific ad it is; it's happened when I have a few tabs open, so I'm not sure which one is the offender.

I just wanted to chime in here that I was hit with a redirect advertisement just a short while ago that loaded a very fake-looking "Flash player is outdated, please click continue to update" link.

Out of a stronger personal concern to wipe my computer clean for safety, I unfortunately didn't take the time to screencap it for convenience. If I run into it again I might, but ANN should be concerned that many people might not risk coming back again. It's pretty unacceptable, and not worth the risk.

If we turn off the ad networks we go bankrupt.
So we work with them to keep shitty ads off the website.

I think we got it. But please let us know if it happens again.

Just to let you know.

While trying to make a post, I was redirected to this fake virus scan site about 20 minutes ago:

http://safety.apple.com.wtdjrgyb.rkepd9wpilpvl6i.bid/o/en/index.php?

I checked my history, and I was sent there via this ad network:

https://wokingmedia.com/click?node=7&time=1524977700&id=143&pid=8&sid=9&rank=0&ad=eyJ0aXRsZSI6IiIsInVybCI6IiJ9

The ad network link query string has the timestamp of the click in it (1524977700), so it only works the first time.

I have a basic subscription so I normally don't see this and I've disabled ad-blockers for ANN, so when I was logged out and visited ANN with ads, I got hit with the old redirection ads again. This time to:

there was some intermediate url I couldn't catch before that.

The site has become flooded with ads again. It was at a reasonable level for the past few months but it's gotten really bad again.

appfilecenter.com is popping up a fake "your flash player is out of date" link. It locked up my PC so no screenshot or cut and paste of link.

Do your own people browse your pages from home? It's so prevalent I'm surprised it was not seen by your own folks. But then you are probably only accessing it from work and not getting the malevolent ads. A suggestion to have some folks open a dozen or so random pages from a PC that does not have a account and NOT from the ANN offices daily. The ad I saw identified my IP so I'll bet they won't push it to your domain.

A_Mixed_Drink,

Can you let me know what it says at the very bottom of the page, underneath the "All material Copyright © 1998-2018 Anime News Network. All rights reserved" line ?

It will help me determine what ad network is serving you ads.

Thanks
