I Often stop at the "Dollar General" store nearby me and they $3 anime dvds such as: Tenchi Muyo, Witch Hunter Robin, G-Gundam, Gatekeepers, Vandread, Corrector Yui, and more.
But I recently went to a "Dollar General" a little farther away from my area and they had a bunch more!, luckily someone online had a list of the dvds at theirs and I was able to piece togethor the basics of what the store I went to had, all for $3 Magical Meow Meow Taruto - Vol. 2 (2 copies) Banner of the Stars II vol. 1 D.I.C.E. Vol. 2 Witch Hunter Robin Vol. 3 Escaflowne Vol. ??? Stratos 4 Vol. 1 Melty Lancer the Animation Vol. 2 Argentosoma vol. ???? Fancy Lala Vol. 1 G Gundam Vol.1 & (some other volumes) Infinite Ryvius vol. ??? Dragon Drive vol. 4 (2-3 copies) Ronin Warriors vol. 4 Brain Powered vol. 1 Kaze no Yojimbo vol. ??? I just find its so interesting how all these Geneon/Bandai series are being released for only 3 dollars! Quite the deal. |

Umm excuse me for asking you this but is the Dollar General something that is east coast/midwest? I live in CA and haven't heard of anything like that. We have dollar stores which may be a little like the Dollar General yet I haven't seen anime there. Any idea if there are store in CA? |

Ahhh I see oh well.....I figure that it wouldn't be anywhere near CA, the name alone kind give off that image. But for everyone else that is a great deal. I wish I could get some G-Gundam DVD, well maybe not now with all the thin packs and everything else. Till next time, Delta Kiral |

I know the Big Lots store we have here on the West coast get anime DVDs in on occasion (although it's been awhile since I've heard of a batch going out). You might look for one of those. |

That's very true. I know that the Big Lots stores around here normally have anime dvds for $3.99-$4.99(the selection often varies of course). In regards to the whole Dollar General store, I think I'll have to make sure to take advantage of the opportunity to go stock up on some dvds when I go to GenCon Indy in August. Do all of the dollar Generals that people here have gone to have really good selections, or is it a kind of a hit or miss thing? Thanks. |

Definitely hit-and-miss, depending on how aware the local consumers are, what's been picked over already and what DVD's were randomly packed into the carton that was sent to the store. Although I have them already, last year I could have bought all of Tenchi Muyo OVA's for $12, by driving to 3 different stores. As it was, I snagged the majority of quite a few series in about 3 days. This time around, I don't see anything I want or need. |

As crazy as this sounds, I actually have 5 Dollar General stores within 5-15 minutes of my house. Two of them aren't worth checking out, as if they have anything, the other ones would have it. One is alright, then there's a second that's decent and then the third seems to have totally different titles than the previous ones, if they have any at all. It seems to take at least a month, if not longer, before 'new' titles come in. Plus this does slip my mind as my schedule is often work-eat-sleep-repeat.
Here's a list of titles I remember seeing in the past; .hack//legend of the twilight Vol. 1 .hack//sign Vol. 4 Argentosoma Vol. ? Beyblade Vol 1-4 Beyblade G Revolution Vol. 3 Big O II Vol. 1 & 4 GateKeepers Vol. 1, 3, 4 G Gundam Vol. 11 & 12 Saber J Marionette (sp?) Vol. ? Sailor Moon Super S Vol. 6 Witch Hunter Robin Vol. 4 & 6 My recent stop there was rather unproductive, as the Beyblade G Rev. Vol. 3 was the only anime DVD I saw there. Even my 'alright' store hardly ever has more than 4 different DVDs. All in all, I only stop by if I'm driving by for other reasons and have a few extra minutes. Edit: I stopped by one of them (the 'decent' one) today on my way to lunch and they had a whole bunch of titles, more than I'd ever seen. I'll be stopping by the better one tomorrow during my errands. Here's some of them (there were a few more, but I can't recall the titles...); Argentosoma Vol. 6 Banner of the Stars (unknown season or volume) Brain Powered Vol. 2 DICE Vol. 1 Dragon Drive Vol. 4 Magical Meow Meow Taruto Vol. 1 Witch Hunter Robin Vol. 2 Yojimbo (sp?) Vol. 5 |

They're all manufacturer's overstock that Geneon, Bandai and FUNimation are trying to get rid of, factory sealed and everything. |

Yep, as with the Big Lots here in the west, they're real, and at great prices, the only catch is that they're pretty old titles most of the time. If you don't have them, it's a great opportunity.
Thanks. |

Shoot...I just paid $13 for the last volume of Tenchi Muyo. There's a Dollar General and a Big Lots near here. I'll definitely have to check them out this weekend! It sounds like they're even cheaper than eBay (and that is rarely, if ever, true).

If you don't have a Dollar General or Big Lots, you might just want to check out good old Walmart. Again, it's a bit hit and miss, but sometimes they have some interesting anime hiding in their el cheapo racks & bins.
In Canada, check out Zellers - the ones I frequent now have all kinds of el cheapo asian stuff - Bollywood, Kung Fu & anime dvds for under $10. Hell, just recently I bought more than half of the Robotech series at Zellers for about $5 each disc. |

I got the first volume of Robotech at K-mart for about $4.99 and they also had a volume or two of Gasaraki and Rahexephon.
