-Note- I am not trying to complain about prices, just trying to notice any sort of trends.
I'll start off by saying that I have been collecting dvds and such for about 2 years. During this time I've mostly purchased shows that have been released already or shows of 13-26 episode range.
There seemed to be some obvious trends right off the bat. For example a show is most expensive during preorder, may get cheaper during release, and may reach sales prices or get a rerelease and become cheaper depending who licensed it. Obvious stuff. (Obviously supply and demand changes this. Quick side question, how often do you as a buyer ignore a new release and wait for it's inevitable price drop?)
What struck me odd though was when I first started tracking the prices of Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood on Bluray. I remember for weeks on end I kept seeing it for a sale price of $29.99 on rightstuf. There was even one point that it was $20 on amazon! (i will note this was around christmas, so maybe inventory was involved?) I was amazed at how cheap it was but decided I would spend my money else where since Brotherhood was still coming out. I had seen it recently as well so there was no NEED for it right away. The same trend seemed to continue of the same sale price of $29.99.
But around the third bluray set, prices seemed to change. For a period of time there were no sales at all of Brotherhood (i think parts 1-3 were out) and they were selling for $40 after membership discount. Basically it seemed like the show was getting more expensive as more of the sets came out. Granted I think the sale price on rightstuf is now like $32 or so? So it's not a lot... $3 more but across 4-5 sets that's $15.
So i guess the question is, have you ever seen this type of thing happen before? Just curious if anyone has ever seen a show get slightly more expensive during a regular release schedule as more parts are released.
It just found it strange that they would decide to change the price of something by $4. Could you imagine if Funi upped the prices of the first few releases due to peoples increased interest of buying after everything is released? Haha.
A quick aside here, this makes me think of another thing. Have you ever noticed a show that has multiple seasons and one season costs more than all the others? Bleach is a perfect example. Last I recall the Soul Society Arc was the most expensive of them all. Another example would be Kenshin's Kyoto arc. It seems like the popularity of certain arcs can make a show more expensive as well?
I am not an econ or marketing expert, but I am aware this could just be based off things such as supply and demand. I also wonder if Funi would ever make a viridian set or something similar for a blurays o_o.

The very steep sales on the first few volumes of Brotherhood did make me wait for similar sales of the later volumes (though I did preorder 5, since it was cheap enough).
I usually don't wait for sales for shows I really like, but will sometimes buy shows on the "hey, that show was kinda cool back in the day" list if they're on sale.
Though certain volumes being rare can be annoying. I've been reading King of Thorn, Alien Nine, and Please Save My Earth recently. Each of them has a rare volume. In Alien Nine's case, Emulators is over $100 ...not gonna do it. I probably won't buy the rare volume of King of Thorn, either, since it's not good enough to pay a premium. PSME... I'll probably cave, eventually. Anime can have the same problem, but less frequently. My set of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure seemingly will be forever incomplete.
...Given that a lot of things seem to have limited runs (Nanoha A's... which I missed), it isn't particularly safe to wait for sales these days.
