If the Fullmetal Alchemist Manga is as good as or I expect better than the anime series and movies it well deserve the award it got well done.

Well I don't read manga but the anime is good. The first series was okay but the second series is better I guess, mainly because it sticks to the manga's story.

The manga has a bit more which the second anime didn't show (Ling and Lan Fan's fight with Gluttony and Envy early on, for example) so it's worth reading even if you've seen Brotherhood
