I've just seen this, and I am telling you now that whenever it sees the light of day on ANN, people are going to go APE.
spoiler[The female lead turns down our nice-guy protagonist's confession in favor of going out with another girl. No ambiguity here, just the movie letting the lesbian get the girl (instead of being forced bravely to support her crush's nice hetero relationship, which is how it usually works). The development is seeded from the very beginning of the film, but I'm pretty dang impressed they actually followed through on it, especially in a squeaky-clean YA-targeted movie.] I'm sure no one will ever actually read that spoiler, but I'm just going to sit here in my corner of Japan feeling content in my gift of prophecy when the film hits these forums and everything explodes. |
