Well, it was a fun little series. I don't even think it was axed, most likely that's where it was supposed to end.

Sadly, Moriking is flopped because sales, including the recent vol. 3, is bad. I think it would have been survived (a bit) if it released in early or mid 2010's like Saiki K. Sad. Nowadays most WSJ mangas are battle shonen.

IMO it was a funny little series, but it sadly wasn't really remarkable. As a gag manga, it rivals directly with Magu-chan, Yozakura, Roboco, Agravity Boys (which also just ended, but will finish its story on another publication) and High School Family. So competition was actually pretty tight.

Magu-chan has its wholesomeness. Yozakura has its mystery and action. Agravity Boys has its own brand of absurdity and story arcs too. Even Roboco and High School Family has surprising character development. Yet aside from some insect trivia, Moriking doesn't offer much aside of its gags.

It's a shame since I really liked Moriking's artwork. The way the author draws surprised reactions is often hilarious. I'm glad it managed to get a good ending though.
