I mean it's not "male idol stuff", it clearly says visual kei... It's like people saying that HypMic is a male idol franchise where the only thing it has in common with those is... having male characters

Technically it's the same "lots of pretty boys with sexy voice who do music, collect them all, find your faves, buy the merch, and hey, maybe write doujinshi, here's some fodder for that" genre, though. Hypnosis Mic is the same. It's all spinoffs of the 2D idol thing, for people who want some variety or prefer something edgier than the usual "more or less wholesome idols". (There's also been "very much not wholesome" idol stuff, too, for the same reasons.) From the looks and sounds of it it's also the same otaku-ified spin on visual kei as Hypnosis Mic is on hip hop.
Btw this is not me judging the singing/rapping-2D-pretty-boys stuff, I'm not averse to the genre at all (I have my fave groups, definitely). I must say though, as someone who's been a fan of visual kei from the '80s and '90s, it's kind of funny in a weird way how it's become reduced to aesthetics and some stereotypical riffs. Not that this started recently.
