I haven't had a chance to watch this yet, but this review gels with a lot of what I've already heard. It's a shame, considering how good the recent spate of Lupin III media has been... but also forgiveable, in light of just how much Lupin III media we've gotten recently.
Kinda wondering if I should watch the Cat's Eye anime first, thoguh. My experience with that IP is also nil, or very nearly so -- I think I watched a TV show years ago that was based on it, but I don't remember what it was called so I can't look it up (all I can think of is Kisarazu Cat's Eye -- which is brilliant -- but that's completely unrelated). I can at least say it was better than that Daughter of Lupin show from a few years back.
And also I've got City Hunter in my "to watch" pile.

I watched it a couple days after it came out, and I'm forced to agree with the review's overall assessment. I've watched a lot of Lupin and read a bit of the Cat's Eye manga, so I was looking forward to itdespite hav ing some reservations about the trailer. It seemed so... bland for two franchises that can carry crazy 80s energy. The Cat's Eye girls in particular look very flat.
And what is it with Lupin and Nazis and Nazi loot? They seem to go to that well pretty regularly.
