Honestly, waking up to him passing was just surreal and not in a good way. I can't understate how important he was for the queer and furry communities, as well as the role he had for helping young queers in a rough spot. His presence and founding a lot of the principle parties of the furry community, no joke, is one of the few reasons why I'm still here, talking with everyone. I never got a chance to meet him, and as it stands, I'm only just starting to my life together, but without someone like him establishing such a community that we have today (as well as his general presence in the queer community and help he had provided), I don't know where I'd be right now, if I'd even still be alive for that matter.
May he rest in peace and his partners, family, and friends, I wish them the best in this time.

I was involved with C/FO San Antonio back in the '80s when I was stationed in San Antonio. I admit that I don't think I'd ever heard of Mark Merlino at the time. But my memory could be playing me false. My condolences to Mark's family and friends.

RIP. *DEEP SIGH* It's still early in the year and we already lost one of the old guards.
