Most incomprehensible title. On one hand is sounds like a science fiction show, on another a fantasy show based on the Magic: The Gathering card game. Or it could be a Slice of Life show about Magic: The Gathering players.

Anyone know if this is just a Slice of Life show, or are there real elements of science fiction and fantasy in it. Or is it like the mahjong anime, Saki.

The title isn't incomprehensible at all, it's just a reference to the text of Wrath of God. The manga is about two high schoolers' budding romance while playing MTG during the turn of the millennium

Unless you know what the text of the Wrath of God is or to what it refers to specifically. Otherwise it is just a jumble.

But you answered the question. It is a Slice of Life show about Magic: The Gathering players.

Yes, that's how most titles work, they make sense within a given context, and in this case one that is easily identifiable to anyone within the target audience of Magic fans

I mean, even as a Magic fan the title is still weird. If memory serves the idea of the world ending in the year 2000 is a background element at the start of the story (been a while since I read it) and that is where the name more or less comes from. Which is still an odd thing to use for the title, but Japan is no stranger to let's say "extra" titles for series so it isn't that abnormal.

To me, "Destroy All Humans" is a cheesy old video game franchise about invading aliens, that's just recently been getting some attention again due to remakes coming out. So when I saw it paired with Magic the Gathering, my first thought was that these crossovers are really getting out of hand...

If you liked Hi Score Girl, chances are you'll like this one as well, it's got a lot of the same vibe to it. Not being versed in Magic game dynamics was not a problem for me. The MC is a middle school chunni(not high school. although the FMC looks like she's 17); this is as much a coming of age story as it is SOL. It's very good! Well, we'll see how they stick the ending....spoiler[there's a time skip].
