Even though it's Science Saru, I want to see some actual animation clips before I expect much from this version. They've got big shoes to fill.

I mean, if they are really focusing on the manga art style and story, which the trailers and art seems to point out to... it'll be substantially different from the originals already.
If that's a good thing or not for fans I guess it depends... xD But likely interesting for a new crowd.
I watched the movie first, then years later I read the manga. Liked both. So good chances for me. xD

Not much more to go off of other than character design sheets and environments...but 2026 is going to be lit.

They showed some early rough animation in the panel. Basically the some timed storyboard layouts with maybe a few key frames of animation. Like the rough cut they use for recording the voice actors to. Based on that, I’d definitely say this is sticking close to the art style of the manga. Even the kind of goofy cartoonish looking aspects of it. We haven’t really seen that come across in GITS animation before. Will be interesting to see how it comes together.

Yeah, I say the same. I want to see the actual animation to see how it holds up to Production I.G's animation.

PS1 game is really the only thing that captured the original manga's look and even, it was more of a blur between the original manga and anime movie at points.

Well, this pretty much kills my expectations for this series. As a huge fan of the original films and the first 2 SAC series (I prefer to forget the 3rd installment even exists) I want my GITS to be serious, dark sci-fi thrillers. I know the manga was way more goofy and fan-servicey than the movies so probably this new adaptation will be more faithful to the original manga but I'm just done with whacky, unfunny comedy in anime form (which is present in, like 95% of all the anime series movies that we get every year anyway), so I'm not exactly holding my breath for this one. A pity, really...

It's kinda weird to me that Sorayama is only involved in the logo design.

There are (I think?) some bits of animation at the end of the teaser, but it's all previz stuff. Seems decent enough, though.

Call me "cautiously optimistic", although I agree that seeing some actual scenes would be nice. Maybe they could release their take on the classic "hotel scene" as a trailer?

It was like that at first, but the second half got more and more like what Oshii's adaptation would be. With the reputation the franchise has gotten due to later works taking more from those two films than the manga in terms of tone, it honestly wouldn't surprise me if the people working on this opt for more of a balance between the manga's early silliness and the more serious side from later on (from what I remember, this same studio did just that with their adaptation of Devilman), though unless there's an interview clarifying their approach, we might not be able to tell until marketing ramps up next year.

The serious GitS and SAC are great, but for those who like it, you have been eating well for a long time now. There are fans of the original manga have been waiting 35 years for this.

Are we? Hasn't been anything good GitS for something like 20 year...

I will trade a silly GitS for a good adaptation of appleseed.

But judging from trailer, the only animation we got was serious in tone and it mostly focused on lavish mechanic and detailed background. If this was an announcement for a new original anime, there would be no reason to expect any amount of silliness.

By "eating well" I meant that the serious version of GitS has basically been the sole focus of the anime adaptations since the first movie in 1995, with the PS1 game being the only true "silly" adaptation of any kind. This adaptation is more than overdue.

Yes you have. Even if you restrict it to movies, OVAs and TV series without counting shorts, specials and compilations, there have been sixteen Ghost In The Shell projects that built off Mamoru Oshii's films and SAC (which also built off the Oshii films) plus the huge number of works influenced by them: The Matrix, the 2017 western movie and a ton of anime. Contrast that to absolutely nothing that reflects what Shirow actually wrote and drew. Whether it is good or bad, it is long past time for a faithful adaptation.

Also, can we not call everything that isn't some ponderous exploration of Mamoru Oshii's headspace (which include his beliefs that he is the reincarnation of a basset hound) or Kenji Kamiyama's using GiTS as political commentary on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and immigration "silly"? It is the same as people who only know "The Dark Knight" version of Batman thanks to the Burton and Nolan movies and are unaware that this anti-hero version did not exist prior to Frank Miller creating it in the late 80s.

And yes, I want a good Appleseed too. No need to use it as an excuse not to do a more faithful GiTS adaptation. Instead, this project being a big success is perhaps the best - or more likely, only since there hasn't been an anime or video game since 2011 - way to get that property revisited.
