Ooh, a steampunk anime since... when?
And by KyoAni as well. Sign me up!

(And... let the licensing bidding war start!)

This was announced before thr Kyoto Animation arson back in 2019 and many speculated it was canceled. I'm so happy it's finally getting adapted!

I always found it weird that people speculated it was canceled when Kyoani never said as such. They have real passion and I never doubted it would happen when they were ready. Finally it's happening and I can't express how hyped I am

It was a long wait but it's finally happening. I was already hoping that this will be it when it was first reported around a month ago that KyoAni will be amking an announcement about their upcoming project.

Well, if there's no news anyone can speculate about a silent cancelation, I mean take a look at Tanya the Evil which got a S2 announcement several years ago and no official updates has been made since, or the Yuri on Ice movie which officially started but got canceled years after.

I like the era, and setting (didn't know, or forgot that this was announced years ago), but overall this just doesn't look all that interesting to me.

Personally, I would have prefered more if they just decided to do a modern remake of one of their works from 2000s - Air or Kanon especially.

They could have rebooted Haruhi, or even Clannad would look significantly different considering how much KyoAni visuals changed over the years.

This one doesn't seem like it will make much impact.

Haven't found & read the original novel yet so i dont know how faithful this adaptation to the source but the stempunk setting caught me offguard & totally different than the impression i got when i saw both the novel cover & animated cm they released years ago(which doesn't show any hint of steampunk setting)

What would be the point of remaking any of their Key adaptations when they're already held in high regard and cover the full source material?

As much as I love the Air anime, a remake that has more episodes than the original could flesh some of the routes that didn’t have much time to be fleshed out, which could make it even better than the one we already have. Kanon and Clannad, though, are just fine the way they are; there wouldn’t really be a point in remaking either of them, especially since KyoAni’s version of Kanon is already a remake of the Toei Animation anime from 2002.

I don't care about "point", but if you really need one, it would have been to have modern versions of old classics.

In general, on paper they may still hold up, but in reality very few people, if any, go out of their way to watch them in mid 2020s - we are way too busy with current anime as it is.

Aside from that, personally, pretty much all of my experiences with remakes that I saw so far were at the very least very good, and enjoyable, so I would like more.

In an era, where everything is about remakes and sequels, we really don't need to be disappointed by not having even more of them. I'm happy to see Kyoani tackling completely new projects.

And, I'm not going to feel bad about people who consider 2000s era anime, as too old for them to watch. Come on now.

And that's a personal problem with those people who need to get over themselves and watch older anime, not a sign that creatives should endlessly regurgitate the same thing over and over again instead of making new exciting things lol

The aesthetic is doing a lot of work for me, since the plot is very vague so far. It's KyoAni so I know it'll be gorgeous and hopefully the story can stand toe-to-toe with their efforts.
