Nihon Falcom unveiled the first trailer for Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter

"Unveiled" is funny, since this exact trailer is used as a post-credit teaser in 1st chapter.

I haven't been keeping up much, but I'm guessing the next actual new entry won't be released until they're finished remaking the older games?

The impression I've gotten is that they have one team working on the remakes and another one actually doing the next one which is, well, the grand finale, so they're almost certainly pulling out all of the stops. Or they're repeating their pattern and splitting it into multiple entries because it got too big.

No I don't think they're anywhere near big enough a company to be casually splitting up like that, especially considering the next Ys and Tokyo Xanadu games are also being made. This is simply another game ontop of their workload. The next entry will most definitely be put off until they're done remaking games for the time being for sure.

Yeah, that's why I assumed that it'd be after they were done remaking games for the next actual new entry when I saw this news. It has been awhile since the last one came out, and since then they've released two remakes and announced a third (with a release date) with no news about the next new game from what I've seen. But I don't follow news from this company closely so wasn't sure if they said anything in a small interview or something.

By two remakes, do you mean both First Chapter and Proud Nordics? 'Cause the latter is definitely not a remake; it's more in line with Atlus' re-releases.

Anyway, going by the shareholder Q&A (which was transcribed by someone who attended), the president is on record as saying Falcom currently has sixty-nine employees, which is notably small for a company that makes such big games. It is known that they do some concurrent work, as he's also mentioned in an interview that at least one person would regularly fulfill their quota on Trails Beyond The Horizon then go immediately work on the remake, but it seems to be the case that they just gradually move people over to a new project as a current one approaches the end of development, as is typical in the industry.

My guess is they got the blueprints for the final game done and it will be worked on after SC Remake is wrapped up. Then after the final game 3rd chapter and the crossbell games will get their turn.

I was referring to Ys vs. Trails, but just checked and it was just a port without anything special done for it so guess not much effort for that one.

I see. Well, considering the first thing they posted news and a release date for is this probably another two years at this rate before they say anything meaningful about a new entry.

If they're going remakes for 1 and 2 first it's more likely that they'll go 3 next before doing any new entry. So that people worldwide would be able to play the original trilogy easily and join in on the excitement for the final entry (or entries).

The next new game won't be the final one; it will be the finale of the current arc, but there will be at least one more arc afterward.

And worst case scenario, Falcom's big release next year will actually be the Tokyo Xanadu sequel they announced last year.
