I have been waiting for the Lupin special episodes to get new blu ray releases. I am little disappointed that they all won't get dubs for whatever er reason but I hope that voyage to danger (plan to assainate ssainate Lupin) has a new dub by the part 2 cast.

Yeeeesss, I've been hoping for Lupin vs Cat's Eye to escape streaming jail! Getting that day 1.

Also, I will probably pick up the specials collection as well. I ordered the first on bluray a while ago but it got lost somehow. I have the DVD of it and the three following specials, but yeah I will double dip for the upgrade on those. Same goes for the 2001 and 2003 specials for a future collection.

I still hope The Fuma Conspiracy and Green vs Red (and perhaps the 70's live-action) get re-releases someday. I missed out on early Discotek releases as I was too young at the time to start collecting.

I'm good on Voltes V. I watched the SD-BD and I didn't really get into it. Finished it once and that's enough.

That collection is a bit annoying because some of those specials have already seen a BD release, while others only got released on DVD. I wish Discotek had separated things out and grouped all of the former DVD ones together so that people didn't have to double-dio on some of them.

What is streaming jail? Are all shows and movies streaming online exclusively are prisoners? Where did that jail term comes from?

Always a pleasure to expand my Lupin Collection.

Speaking of, I recently discovered a new website some of y'all might be interested in -- seems like a good companion to Project Gutenburg: https://standardebooks.org/collections/arsene-lupin

Specifically the fact that they have countdowns for when works will enter the public domain. Granted, in this case we're stuck waiting for work to be both in the public domain and translated into English, so we're still a bit SOL on a lot of these stories, but even so.

SO I know this is off track but given they are often paired together (diskotec did release both crossovers after all)

Does this mean we are no longer getting anymore physical conan media releases? have we actually been told anything or was it just taken behind the shed and shot with the hope no one notices?

It's usually regarding titles on Netflix and the lack of home video for most of them after a couple of years, this has also extended to Crunchyroll recently with the number of shows they have yet to release on disc that they have home video rights to.

In this case though, Lupin Vs. Cat's Eye was a Amazon Prime exclusive (so technically an ONA like Lupin Zero was for DMM TV in Japan) and the same goes for the yet to be licensed Jigen Daisuke live-action film (not counting that TMS has it streaming with subs on YouTube) plus Amazon has streamed a few other titles over the years that never got picked up for disc.

Would that mean any show or movie that never got a home release is a problem to anyone who want them without relying online streaming? Does it mean that exclusivity itself on any series is a bad thing?

Is gatekeeping art instead of making it widely available in different formats a bad thing? And
is keeping it hostage for years until the rights expire or the licensor decides it's not worth the trouble to license out again and it becomes entirely unavailable whatsoever also a bad thing? Yeah. I'd say that streaming jail is a bad thing.

In 2025, TMS started releasing the Lupin TV Specials in volume sets in Japan, so it's nice to see a version of these make their way outside Japan.

It's a shame they just didn't keep parity to those sets, but excited to have all the Lupin TV specials gathered together in high quality, and take up less shelf space

From:
https://www.lupincentral.com/home/eighteen-classic-lupin-iii-tv-specials-are-getting-new-blu-ray-releases-in-japan

"The specials will release in three waves, each containing six specials each. The first is wave due to go on sale on January the 22nd, 2025. Waves two and three are due to release soon after, with the current plan being that all will release during the first half of 2025. Each volume will release with a recommended retail price of ¥4,400.

The first boxed set contains the following:

Lupin III: Bye Bye, Lady Liberty (1989)

Lupin III: The Mystery of the Hemingway Papers (1990)

Lupin III: Steal Napoleon's Dictionary! (1991)

Lupin III: From Siberia with Love (1992)

Lupin III: Voyage to Danger (1993)

Lupin III: The Pursuit of Harimao's Treasure (1995)

second volume in this set, which is due to release on the 19th of February 2025!

The second set includes:

Lupin III: The Secret of the Twilight Gemini (1996)

Lupin III: Tokyo Crisis (1998)

Lupin III: The Columbus Files (1999)

Lupin III: Missed By a Dollar (2000)

Lupin III: Alcatraz Connection (2001)

Lupin III: Operation Return the Treasure (2003)"

This. More options is always, in this case, is alway a good thing and Discotek is providing a new option. I don't want Prime or Crunchyroll because I don't like their services... especially nowadays with all the AI dub/sub situations.

Basically, I don't trust them, so I choose not to pay them. I do trust Discotek and choose to pay them. And on a more personal note, I still love home media and collecting it. Streaming isn't that fun to me and I'm not a fan of subscriptions in general. So yes, this news makes me happy.

Where did the streaming jail terms come from and what started this? Are you telling me that gatekeeping is a bad thing? Are there shows involves around in jails?
