Here’s hoping part 2 is more consistent in tone.

IMO, the story feels like a 2-cour plotline that was squeezed into a 1-cour part. The lack of time led to a lack of breathing room to showcase character bonding and finer details, like the alluded scenes with Mirei or the Japanese prime minister finally accepting the boys' worth. It felt like the scope was too ambitious for the allocated episodes given.
Either Part 1 should have gotten more episodes to showcase the abovementioned finer details, or the writers should have simplified the story scope and focused on fleshing out said breathing room. For example, show the newly forming team rescuing civilians and blunting off the initial demon invasion, thus earning approval from the government and the surviving public.
