OK, now Viz deciding to re-release the manga via omnibuses doesn't come off as seemingly random as it initially sounded back in late 2024. I would certainly imagine that they heard word of Red River's anime entering early pre-production (it's a Shogakukan-published manga in Japan, after all), so they wanted to make sure it was available in print again in advance, hoping that they might get a surge of interest once the anime debuts.

That’s crazy (I feel like they’ll definitely have to censor stuff) but I love this trend of finally animating 80s/90s manga.

Dude, I was just saying this morning that Red River will never get an adaptation
Does this mean other works from Shinohara is on the table????
Great news either way!!

I mean, basically every episode, right? That manga was spicy! I remember the plot being pretty meaty too, in terms of intrigue and politics. Very much a stepping stone for stories like Yona of the Dawn and Dawn of the Arcana (especially that one, I feel like there was a subplot that mirrored Red River almost beat-for-beat with minor tweaks.)

As someone reading those omnibuses, they've definitely made me interested in this.
Good job, whoever's gone and opened the shōjo adaptation floodgates, keep it coming.

I had heard a looooot of good things about the series and have been collecting the new omnibuses since the first one released! I haven't read it yet, as I'm hoping they'll finish releasing them in 2027 so I can read it all at once instead of taking months-long breaks between releases, but maybe I'll start it, just to have a reference for the anime. This is fantastic!

OMG the shoujo renaissance is real!
But my question is, will the newgens be able to handle the sheer 90s to early 2000s flavour of messy melodrama that is Red River?

It's only getting greenlit, because it's another isekai.

This will surely become the most prominent depiction of the Hittites in any media.

Sure, that's entirely likely, but I don't think anyone should really complain in a case like this when it's something entirely different from the usual isekai adaptation fare by being (1) a time warp story & (2) an adaptation of a classic 90s/00s manga instead of a Narou-sourced web/light novel from the past decade.

It wouldn't surprise me if they eventually announced The Twelve Kingdoms, and / or The Vision of Escaflowne remakes.

Eeeeee no way! This is so cool and so well-deserved! Yuri is a Thinking Heroine par excellence, so this show better do her justice. <3
