Quick, we need Peter Cushing and a very sharp stake.

“Eva is a story that repeats.”

NieR has a lot of the same underlying pathos.

This honestly isn't that far fetched, but I never would have thought it would happen.

Day one. Smile

I'm reminded that Anno spoke of "Gundamizing" Evangelion years ago.

For the future, he wishes Evangelion will become a cultural icon, one of the cornerstones of anime, much like Gundam, which has become an institution in and of itself. Like Gundam, where many creators can play around with the elements and create their own worlds, it is Anno's hope that Evangelion can also be set free, to be reconstructed and reinterpreted in many ways by many other artists.

So is this going to cover the timeskip in the Rebuilds, or is it something else entirely?

Discussion of Evangelion getting beaten like a dead horse has long since itself become a matter of beating a dead horse (and we've gotten thoroughly Gundamized Eva with the Anima light novels), so will just say that I'm most excited about Toko Yatabe getting the co-director's chair

Maybe it's picky of me, but I don't know that easily ignorable spin-off manga and novels remixing the same characters (which so many other franchises have) count towards what was being described with Gundam. Of course, we don't really know what this new thing is yet either, so I suppose we'll see.

Well, at least the Super: Beerus haters might stop complaining. But there goes that Nausicaa reboot.

No, Anima is literally Evangelion but Gundam, from Ikuto Yamashita's design ethos of a bunch of segmented plates to mech fights in space. Which also counts as what Anno described, and I don't know why you would arbitrarily draw a line at how "ignorable" or not "ignorable" a piece of fiction is (hint: it's all ignorable) when discussing Anno's desire for Eva to become an endlessly reinvented media mix

There’s plenty of room for:
Evangelion: Ataraxia
Evangelion: Strange Fake
Evangelion: Lord Asuka’s Detective Agency

I was excited until ANN reminded me KamiErabi GOD.app is a thing. Realistically, it's been 9 years since Taro released anything good so honestly it's weird to get excited based on his name alone. I'm sure it will be a visual feast though

Nier Reincarnation is literally just Nier 3, even if it was a mobile game, that was pretty good story wise.

In all honesty, this is a perfect anime project for Yoko Taro, considering Ending E of Drakengard was a direct send up to End of Evangelion.

I mean in the sense of Gundam having stuff like Gundam 0083 and Gundam Wing. Works which have less to do with the original (to varying extremes, whether it's different characters or a completely new universe), made with different staff, telling different stories, and are major anime series.

As opposed to something like, say, manga like Gundam 0079 or The Battle Tales of Flanagan Boone, which aren't really pushed in the same way. Yeah, they absolutely count as media mix, but they don't change much about how we consider Gundam as a major force in anime.

If nothing else, I think it's clearly a much bigger deal that Khara is making a brand new series than if this were a manga or novel. I am of course simply speculating that maybe it'll be something along the lines of Gundam 0083 or Gundam Wing rather than another direct remake/continuation, somehow - again, we'll see. But I hope that gets across what I mean a bit better.
