This is the primary reason why Sony pulled out of PC releases. They could make their own storefront for PC but, steam just works and its going to be on XBOX.

They're just saying whatever now, aren't they? This thing is gonna cost two months worth of rent, so what in the hell are they hoping to sell? And that's not getting into how MS has had trouble getting games out in general.

So I wondered how that will affect any future Xbox games appearing on Playstation 5 (and probably PS6) given that we just got Gears of War: Reloaded, and now the upcoming Halo 1 remake. |

Microslop setting itself up for failure once more, no one bought the Series X/S, their reputation's in the gutter because of all the AI crap they're pushing on all their platforms, there's genuinely no point to buying a console for their games if you have a halfway decent pc these days (and they're definitely not giving up on PC releases) and with Steam Machine coming soon, no one's gonna want Microslop.
This thing is dead before arrival. |

I agree. The fact that a new console announcement has been crickets on social media is a really bad sign.

So Microsoft is becoming the new SNK 90's style??? For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about or why I'm bringing up this company in this conversation, SNK back in the 90's during the 4th gen gaming console era had the Neo-Geo consoles including the Neo Geo CD while their game titles are still being released on their competitor consoles like Super Nintendo and SEGA Genesis despite SNK had their own consoles already. For example, the first Fatal Fury game came out on Neo-Geo console in the US in 1991, and the same Fatal Fury 1 also came out on Super Nintendo (April 1993, USA), and Sega Genesis consoles (Feb 1993, USA) respectively. They did the same thing for Samurai Shodown video game (Neo Geo console first, then it starts appearing on Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Panasonic 3DO). Is this what Microsoft going to do given that Gears of War: Reloaded and the Halo 1 remake (both Microsoft's 1st party titles) has already gotten released on Playstation 5? Are you telling me that we're going to see something similar to this for Microsoft, pulling a early 1990's SNK-styled marketing and distribution? As in they released a console, but their 1st party titles could end up appearing on PS5/PS6, and Nintendo Switch 2 alongside their new Xbox consoles. Kind of like how SNK had their Neo-Geo/Neo-Geo CD consoles made but at the same time allow their games to appear on competitor consoles. So is that what I'm reading given the way that Microsoft Xbox games are appearing on Playstation and Switch. |

I wouldn’t be a Steam fan tossing stones considering what happened with the last Steam Machine. |

Would be interesting if Microsoft still publishes their titles on Playstation, since getting your product out on as many options can result in more profits.
Valve had to put a small pause on the Steam Machine because of how bad memory pricing got and SSD prices are rising daily, I expect to to be more pricey than originally intended plus it's sales are limited to specific countries.
The market is so broken now that Nvidia is releasing the RTX 5050 with 9GB GDDR7 because it's cheaper than 8GB GDDR6. There are rumors that they are re-launching the RTX 3060 because they can't produce 5060/70/80/90 chips due to supply going straight to AI. AMD is pushing for AI too and the "entry level" RX 9060 XT is over priced and Intel put a stop to the Arc B7xx series because of RAM prices too. |

Hence my comparison to SNK back in the 90's during when SNK had Neo-Geo consoles including the Neo-Geo CD and at the same time allow their game titles/properties on their competitor consoles. |

Not just AMD either, Nvidia is all for AI and Valve is pro-AI too. A lot of the major PC players have shot themselves in the foot willingly for short term money |

Microslop had their chance but with them fouling up their OS with every other update due to AI slop coding I've started to transition away from their wares as a whole (OS, games, game consoles, etc.) and move to Linux. Not to mention the whole 'Windows Recall' thing that's a whole privacy and cybersecurity nightmare waiting to happen.

Microsoft is not concerned about Xbox.
Microsoft is concerned about Windows. Xbox's existence began solely as a way to prevent the potential of Sony from leveraging game consoles as personal computer replacements. Ken Kuturagi openly spoke about his ambitions with PlayStation in this fashion, and PS3 could boot Linux as another OS, and Valve/Steam has also been expanding Linux support, and Apple is also leveraging gaming more and more. While Sony no longer has Kuturagi's ambitions for PlayStation anymore, PC gamers and Steam are increasingly seeking alternatives to the bloated nature of Windows. Microsoft can't beat Sony or Nintendo, but neither of them is a threat to Windows in the PC space. Microsoft therefore wants to leverage the remaining Xbox faithful to transition them to Windows PC and Cloud. Helix, and other 3rd party branded Xbox/PC hybrids are a carrot on a stick. There will be several models with varying specs with varying prices. Microsoft's bought 1st Party will carry on releasing games for PlayStation and Switch 2 to survive as having Steam on the Xbox hybrids means a big loss of platform revenue, and we'll need to see if Microsoft still plans to have Steam games requiring paying for Gamepass basic to play online. But basically Microsoft is killing their revenue, especially if they still put games day 1 on higher Gamepass tiers and free later on inbetween tiers, so PlayStation sales will be necessary. Digital PS sales will be fine, but their physical sales being only a download pass on a dataless disc will suck as much as keycards on Switch. The business model should work well enough for them so long as they are not expecting mass market sales, and Microsoft might end generational releases altogether, with new marginally upgraded boxes every 3-4 years. |

If anyone want's a good starter Linux distro I'd recommend Linux Mint since it's GUI/Desktop Environment (Cinnamon) is the most "Windows" like while being super stable and popular enough where you can find help if you are having issues. And if you don't like the GUI you can install a different one like KDE Plasma which Steam OS uses on Steam Deck. |

The thing with the Neo-Geo is that the console version, the AES (Advanced Entertainment System) was positioned as a luxury product, I don't think SNK ever intended for the AES to compete against the home consoles from the era, most of SNK earnings came from their Neo-Geo MVS (Multi Video System) arcade boards. Porting their popular games to weaker hardware was a another way to make some extra cash. The Xbox, on the other hand, is in a weird position, at least that's what I believe, In regards that there's not a lot of incentive for the average consumer to buy an Xbox instead of a PlayStation, save for maybe being able to use the Game Pass, both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 have more or less the same power, but I do believe PS has a better brand image compared to Xbox, and better exclusives (or limited exclusives), also, the PS has been on the market for much longer. I think that's the reason why Nintendo had a huge success with the Switch, they couldn't compete with both PlayStation and Sony in the power department, so the Switch targets a different audience, something that Xbox has never really tried. |
