Comparing characters Nero seems to be the easy mode of the game especially after doing the first walkthrough. Dante is more demanding when it comes to combos so you gotta have more reflexes with the change of styles and weapons. Vergil is the hard mode just like he was in 3 and 4. V sadly feels like a character you gotta spam the same buttons over and over again so it's kinda boring, especially when most demon animations are slow and repeated. The game is fun but it seems Capcom wasn't confident about the budget considering we only have 20 main missions for the 4 characters together so some have less depending on the mission being designed more for Nero or others.

Something that's fun and new about Dante is that he finally has not only the super devil trigger or whatever you call it but he also has summoned swords, a technique similar to Vergil that he has used even in Devil May Cry 1 as Nelo Angelo. Guess the franchise would be benefitted with some lore in regards to how these techniques are performed. I don't remember if Nero has summoned swords but his Devil Trigger doesn't seems explained. In the novelization of 4, it was revealed that the Yamato revived Nero throughout an hallucination with Vergil, but here Nero becomes a Devil kinda last minute.

Do I need to play the other games in order to enjoy this? I tried the first game but it was too hard.

While it does reference events and includes characters from the previous games (and some stuff from the first anime) you can pretty much play it blind.

I’ve not played 1 or 2. And wasn’t lost

Not really? For the plot, yeah this is very much following up 4 and 3. 2 is 100% ignored and there’s some 1 references. But the plot is still entertaining to watch since it’s DMC even if you’re missing context, and most of the game is gameplay, which is great no matter who you are.

Oh ok good. My left hand is damage so as long it's not too hard I think I should managed. I beat Bayonetta 1 and 2 for reference but could not get past the first act of Silksong for reference.

The only thing you need to know about Devil May Cry 5 gameplay is that the first jump your character does is invulnerable all the way up. Second jump is not invul and you're vulnerable on the way down.

(at least this is how I remember it... it's been a while)

If you exploit this, you will be better than large swaths of people that play this game simply because it's this random unexplained game mechanic that's actually pretty important and I wish Capcom actually explained it somewhere in the game.

(but then maybe it is explained somewhere and I just never saw it all these years since DMC 3)

Interestingly, Ninja Gaiden 4 explained on-landing instant ultimate technique by having it be an upgrade you buy that just tells you how to do it.

In regards to the previous DMC games, at least Capcom ported the first three games to the original Switch, but the fourth game hasn't been ported, I believe it has to do with that game's engine not being compatible with the Switch. I wonder if Capcom is planning on remastering/remaking all of the pre-V DMC games.

I mean as it the only games in need of remaking is 2 but they’d might as well remake 1 as well
