A source has told me that Negima! #13 has not been polybagged like #1-12.
So what gives with the sudden change in policy? Does Del Rey like Jailbait now?

Why would Del Rey start editing Negima when the entire manga community almost rioted when they suggested that the first volume might see some cuts? Its either that volume is more toned down compared to every one before it (knowing Akamatsu that would be like defying a few laws of physics) or DR finally realized that they're being a bit extreme in terms of ratings/shrinkwrapping, even compared to other manga companies. Or it could be a factory error...

If Del Rey is about to start editing the hell out of Negima!, they've lost me as a customer. Editing a series 12 volumes in, especially one that is uses it's fanservice so extensively, is just nuts.
I'm leaning on the side of this not being a censorship thing and it's just Del Rey saying "we're sick of wrapping it" but I'm nervous now.
Any chance your source could check for edits?

Most likely the reason they weren't shrink wrapped is because kids took off the shrink wrapping and read the manga in the store, not because Del Rey stopped doing it. Though that is odd with the sudden change of Del Rey not to shrink wrap that volume.

Maybe Volume 13 has a lot less fanservice than the previous volumes? (It's not impossible. Very unlikely, but not impossible.)

I did a quick scanlation torrent of #13 (Yes, bad me, slap my hands), and I have to say, the fanservice is almost on-par with the rest of the other series.

I'd imagine they just decided that shrinkwrap isn't necessary for the content. Or that shrinkwrapping is pretty pointless since people can usually pull it off in the bookstores and leave it there unwrapped. Perhaps they just don't want people thinking its worse than it is due to the shrinkwrap.
I can't imagine they would start editing it at this point.

I think volume 9 had pretty low fanservice compared to the rest of the series but it was still shrinkwrapped.

Compared to the overwhelming amount of nudity at the end of volume 8 alone, volumes 9-12 have been surprisingly tame in comparison. Panty shots here and there, but nudity and the like have been almost non existent. If volume 13 continues the trend, it's definitely not shrinkwrappable material, though it's not like it affects my purchase anyway.
I'm glad someone made this thread, because I kept thinking volume 13 wasn't coming out until the end of March. Glad to see I have it to look forward to!

I can't believe that some American manga fans (or book readers in general) can be so shameless. Doing so in Taiwan, if caught by clerk and/or security camera, would be forced to purchase that item, or police would be summoned.

I would love America to adopt that policy. Nothing would make me happier then to see the cops waltz in and take away some 14 year old for not buying the copy of Negima he took the shrinkwrap off of and read. Perhaps then I could actually buy manga at a bookstore that hasn't been ruined.

Exactly. Especially since they fancy themselves "The Otaku's Choice"

I think it would be a pretty stupid move on Del Rey's part to edit their Manga. Seeing as VIZ noticed how it made fans mad so starting with I"s 11 they stopped editing it.

I can't disagree with you there. This is sort of off topic, but something that has peeved me for awhile. I cannot stand when I walk into a book store and see someone pulling the shrink wrap off of a title, when it is there for a reason. Espically when it is after volume one.
I cannot stand that people sit there and read the volumes of any title. Skim through the first few pages, sure....you wanna test the waters, but there are places to go to read books without paying for them. They are called libraries. Seeing people reading the books in the book stores always seemed like a form of stealing to me. I have seen people sitting there, reading the entire volume of a manga, and then put it down and pick up another!!! (Yes, I have been known to be in a book store that long.....I can be very indecisive at times hahaha). If you don't have the money to buy the title......stay out of the store until you do. You clutter the aisle, mangle the book, and piss off all the people who are actually spending their money on what you are getting for free.
Ok, sorry....I just had to get that out. Now back to the topic. I haven't read to far into Negima, so I might not be qualifed to comment, but I don't think I would worry too much. Del Rey seems to be good at keeping to quality. If the book isn't shrink wrapped, then they probably felt that it's content was ok to leave it that way.

Because Companies here believe in the whole tripe that is "Customer Service."
Also see the USA's glorious lawsuit record. The fact that I could be sued for smashing the "family jewels" of a robber in my house is a ****ed up concept.

I am not a lawyer, and your mileage may vary, but by my anecdotal evidence (which means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING) I have seen bookstore shelves where you get, like, 2 shrinkwrapped copies of Negima 9 and then one that's open. I think Del Rey likes to shrinkwrap the series but have trouble enforcing it.
Anyone notice if other BEWARE:BOOBIES series like Air Gear and Basilisk are being handled the same way?
Also, who is "a source"? Bookstore worker? Kurt Hassler? Your Blue Aura Naruto Fox Friend?

I really dislike it because at my local bookstore, when you pull the shrink-wrapping off, it takes the price tag off too, so if I want to buy a book that was shrink-wrapped, they have to look up information on it... But one of the employees told me that they really don't care because it only takes them a second to wrap it back up.
