Well I was sitting in my yesterday thinking about many thing when I was sitting there medidtating quitely I have realized somethin, that elitism is pretty wrong over the last couple of months I have been on a subbing spree my goal was to convert all kids who watch YGO to watching the sub version then it came to me I have became way too elitists so I wrote this little article on elitism.
Elitisim, perhaps one our cultures main goals is to converts people interests through any way possible, being a sub elitist myself I have found many flaw within certain elitists and why do I have a general dislike towards them Dubbie elitists: No I am not talking about people who are excessive dub fanboys but rather the "I have never watched a single damn sub or uncut anime in my life but I am the anime know it all" type of dubbie fan. Often these elitists are very fanboyish and at times give off faulty lies and praise to wrong companies(4kids) who usually cut most of content that help hold the foundations of an anime to sell card this creates the anti anime factions and it perhaps the main cause of why magic: the gathering is the choice of even anime fans everywhere. Dubbie elitists are perhaps why religous groups and concerned parents are alway stalking anime Subbie elitists: These guys are at times less worse or worser then the secondary elitists. Subbie elitists often are at times smarter then dubbie elitists but nonetheless just as bad. Although the subbie fan has been in contact with both types of anime, they often abuse their power by doing the following. -Lauching "invasions" dub companies and saying Dubs the Su><0R and senseless things like that. -Acting all Japanese like saying they are educated cause they learn the some japanese in fansubs(last time I tried using a japanese word I dont know, in my japanese class the teacher corrected me) -putting anyone who thought a dub was decent -bitching about their anime and yet does nothing about it(except whining about it of course) Elitism is an ineffective way to persuade people to watching better quality anime, you got to start finding the good within dubs and subs and stop trying to act all secluded and like this is asaqe and I am signing out |

I think both sides are idiots, quite frankly. I prefer subs, yes, but I'm not a dick about it, and I have no qualms watching a dub as long as its good (or at least watchable, like Crest of the Stars).

I'm with Nagisa on this one. Subs are cool because I think they're more original (plus I can use 'em as Japanese homework), but any good dub (like Tenchi or Crest of the Stars) is well worth watching.
Elitism = bad. |

You think the Crest of the Stars dub is watchable? You have a high tolerance for bad acting and mismatched casting. A watchable dub is GTO. A good is dub is Outhlaw Star. Crest of the Stars=bad dub. Bad dub=dud.

If anything, subs have helped me to learn Japanese.
I admit that I am a bit picky when it comes to dubs. Sometimes the voices are out of character or poor acting in general. I can't help it because it sticks out like a sore thumb sometimes. I do prefer subs over dubs, but some anime I don't mind (Cowboy Bebop for example sounds better in English in my opinion). As long as it's watchable and not making me want to strangle the character...it's all good.

Nah, you haven't lived until you've seen the semaphore version of M.D Geist.

Needed some comic relief there.I prefer dubs,because I want to focus solely on the visual and not read at the same time.I'll watch a sub over a bad dub,but if the dub is okay I will watch it.

Subs helped me learn Japanese, and subs help me keep my Japanese at a conversational level. Dubs... well.... don't.
I prefer subs, but I'll acknowledge that good dubs exist... but generally, I'd rather watch the sub version. Or the raw version.... but I find that I need the subs in most of the military and tech anime, cause I just don't know the vocabulary for most of the terms.... |

I don't really care, but I prefer dubs because reading the subs takes too much of my attention.
The only time I care is if I've seen an anime in a certain version. For example, since I watched EVA subbed I prefer to watch it subbed even with a dub track available. Other than that there really isn't much difference to me. |

I usually watch dubs, but if the anime's dub is so bad, sometimes I'll just watch it subbed. I have no problem with either, but I prefer the dubs.

My solution is I watch both sub and dub. It is more time consuming though, but then... the voice actors/tresses put in a lot of time to dub the series, so I might as well appretiate it.
I just watch sub the first time I view the anime, that's all.

XD That's great. >.> I'm actually getting to the point where I watch raws cause the fansubs are taking too long for me, and I only know 100 japanese words at the most. I prefer sub mainly because that was the original version, what it was ment to be. If the dub is REALLY good *aka something like Excel Saga* I'll watch it, but usually only after I've seen the sub. |
