The Saiyuki TV series went downhill for me after the Homura arc. I actually found Gunlock's fillers to be more entertaining than the completely skippable ones in Reload, but the Hazel arc which was this series' main attraction paled in comparison to the Kami-sama one and I found myself losing interest near the end.
The first half is entertaining enough to pass the time though.

Hazel was still in recent issues of Comic Zero Sum so yeah, the arc was still running when the series ended. THe last couple issues are doing a tournament (the one dude is scary. I swear that's a cucumber in his undies. Zuccini?)
Homura was filler. I felt it was trying to bring in elements of the Kami-Sama arc, but Kami-sama was infinitely more interesting if just for revealing Ni Jyenni's involvement with our boys. The issues of why the boys are traveling together, etc were all part of Kami-sama.
