I bought Witchblade Vol. 3 yesterday at a Best Buy in San Antonio (not my usual one, since they were sold out or only had 1 left). I brought the DVD home & it plays the FBI warning & the Gonzo trademark video. With my other 2 DVD's, the FUNimation trademark plays next & the DVD works as usual. With this one, it shows static, then a blank screen. I can't stop the player, pause, or go to the menu. I turn the player off, then back on & the same thing happens.
I exchanged the DVD at the store for another one. I tried it today & the same thing happened. There's a strip inside the box that I think is the "Security Feature" that probably sets off the store alarm if I tried to shoplift it. Vols. 1 & 2 don't have it, but both Vol. 3 disks do. Could they have forgot to deactivate that & that is why my disks won't play?
I'm going to exchange the DVD a 3rd time, but I'm also taking Vol. 2 to prove that it's not my DVD player. This is a DVD/VCR player attached to my TV. Maybe I can play it on my laptop; if it works, could it be my DVD connection to the TV? Doubt it, since both my other DVD's work.
Has anyone else had the same problems with Witchblade Vol. 3 or other FUNimation DVD's recently?

I did not have any such problem with vol. 3 (and my player is hardly a new one), nor have I had it with any other Funimation release. I seriously doubt it has anything to do with the security strip, either, since virtually all anime sold legitimately in the past few years have those.
It sounds to me more like the store just got a bad batch of disks, but I'd definitely try it on a computer DVD player first. They tend to be more up-to-date, and I've often found that my computer will handle DVDs just fine that drive my DVD player buggy.

I think the most likely scenario is that your DVD player just doesn't like the disk. Of my DVD collection (several hundred disks), I have a few disks (Animatrix, and a couple Superman animated series disks) that just won't play nice with my (admittedly very low end) DVD player.
Luckily I have two desktop computers, a laptop, and another two DVD players that I have access to if I want to watch those disks, but the DVD player I'd normally use doesn't like them.

Count me in the batch that has not had a problem with it. I played it on 2 dvd players and my x-box 360 and it worked fine on all 3 systems. Either your dvd player is simply being difficult or maybe there's some problem with your disc itself. I'd return it for another copy of the same thing and see if it continues. If it does it's your player, if not then it was just a bad disc.

My DVD/VCR is low-end, too, but this is the first time I've had a disc that won't play normally. As I mentioned in my OP, I tried it on my laptop using InterVideo WinDVD & it works! The difference between the 1st 2 volumes & this, is between the Gonzo trademark & the FUNimation one, there's a Top Cow trademark. My DVD/VCR doesn't like the Top Cow video, but WinDVD has no problem with playing anything... except the menu & any scene with a lot of white looks washed out. I'll check WinDVD's help to see how I can adjust the brightness; on my DVD hooked to my TV, it looked fine on the other 2 discs.
As for the disc, I returned the original one I bought that had the problem & the exchanged disc had the same problem on my DVD/VCR today. I only thought today to play it on my laptop. Thanks for everyone who replied & gave advice.
Update: I bought Vol. 4 a few days ago & the same thing happens. Oh, well... any scene with white looks washed out & V4 has the Top Cow trademark that my VCR/DVD still can't play & nothing happens from that point. Still works fine on the PC.
