Okay, i've been looking at this series and it looks good for the most part. I saw the trailers and... WOW! It looks like a really good anime series, but I heard it starts out slow. Does anybody know where it picks up. And if you've seen it do you like it. I kinda skimmed through the first and second episode and they looked alright, so just want your opinion on it and where it picks up.

Gilgamesh bored me to tears. I wanted to be dark and gritty but it was just dull and lifeless. All of the characters were boring, the mystery wasn't that interesting, and the show was really cheap. Sure, the they put a good amount of detail into the art but at the expense of actually animating it. One of the later episodes repeats almost an entire scene from one of the early episodes. It's about a minute of the exact same thing from 20 episodes prior except for about 5 seconds they took out of the second one. The last episode was the only one I actually enjoyed.

It was pretty average in my opinion. It has several issues that brought it down for me. First I really did not like the character designs at all, second I didn't like any of the characters enough to get attached to them and finally I really disliked the ending which is really confusing and depressing.

Wow, I may be the voice of dissent here, but I very much enjoyed Gilgmesh. I loved the unique character designs, the animation itself, rich and detailed while muted and dark feeling...
I had no problems with the pacing, and while slow, I thought it built naturally and was fine the way it was, so I can't say when it "picks up" as I liked how it was. I am going to watch this again soon(ish.)

I also enjoyed Gilgamesh. I really adored the human character designs, and enjoyed the dark stylistic goth atmospherics. The story is pretty decent, and really my only complaint is with the way the show ended. So like the last few episodes. The pacing is slow, but not to the point where the story wasn't moving forward. Keep in mind I have a high tolerance to slow pacing as long as the story doesn't stand still, or something stupid is introduced that will make my eyes roll. So I can see how this show definitely isn't for everyone. Overall it was an enjoyable experience for me, and on the short list for people who like highly stylised anime.
As far as where it picks up? I guess that really depends on what you mean. It's been a while, but if I remember correctly somewhere around episode 8 or so things get real interesting. At least for me.

I too enjoyed it very much. I LOVED the dark and moody feeling of the show, and the art was very nice IMO. I really liked the darker gothicish feel to the character and background designs. It fit the story well. The story does starta bit slow but by around the end of disc 2 the action picks up more. The tag for the show was "which side would you choose?" Quite often you might be able to relate to the views of each side so picking which one you want to win can be a bit hard at times. At least that's my opinion. I will say the ending is also a bit of a surprise as it's not what you would expect to happen.
The other thing I thoroughly enjoyed about the series were the extras. The extras on all of the discs were some of the best I have ever seen ADV put out and they really help you get into the series more if you take the time to watch them. It was very interesting hearing what they did to make the voice dubbing more authentic for the dark feel of the show.

It's been a long while since I'd watched this. But, from what I remember of it, it did start a tad slow and then it wrapped up rather abruptly, IMO.
Overall, though, I had high hopes for it. It seemed really interesting on first blush. I, too, really like dark moody anime. But, in the end, I wasn't bowled over by it. But, neither was I disappointed in it.
I probably would have been more upset if I'd paid for the DVDs. Instead, I watched it via Netflix rentals.

I LOVED Gilgamesh.
I found the artwork to be refreshingly unique, and the storyline captivated my interest. However, I should warn you, that the ending was a big letdown. (Like, honestly... if it was just your typical letdown ending, I wouldnt bother mentioning it, but this one ties for the worst ending I have ever seen)

I rented the first two discs a couple of months ago and while I didn't dislike it, I just couldn't get into it like I wanted to. I did like the character designs. I thought they were some of the best I've seen in a long time, but that alone was not enough to draw me into the story. At a later date I will watch the rest of it but I have other things on my plate right now.
