I found out today that their are 2 Escaflowne manga series. A 'shonen' version (the one you can find at the bookstore), but there is, theoretically, a 'shoujo' version as well. From what I understand the shoujo version is short, like only 2 books.
I have posted this for several reasons: 1) Because I have never heard of them doing shonen/shoujo versions of an manga before. The Shonen version is very different from anime, btw). 2) I can not find any info on the shoujo versions. ?? (Not that I WANT the shoujo versions, I am just curious to see it [specifially the art style]) Perhaps I am insane? *nods head* Anybody heard anything? |

Yeah, you're right, there are two versions, actually, I think there are more like 3 versions. I've read scanlations of the first 4 chapters of the shoujo one. So far it's just Van, Hitomi, and Alan traveling around, with no Escaflowne yet. It's name was Hitomi Vision of Escaflowne, and it was by Yashiro Yuzuru. This site has some info: http://www.ex.org/1.x/16-esca_manga.html
However, there is also another Escaflowne manga that is also considered Shoujo since it ran in Asuka. That one was called Escaflowne - Energist's Memories, and is mainly a bunch of short stories, sort of like in a doujin sense, but they were official. I suggest this one over the Hitomi Vision of Escaflowne. Summary taken from a site: Escaflowne - Energist's Memories by various mangakas Escaflowne - Energist's Memories is a shoujo one volume manga is based on Escaflowne. It has about 15 rather short stories or so, where each is by a different mangaka, with a different story and drawing style. Most of them are humorous and light-hearted, although there are some more serious ones as well. Also, this isn't a doujinshi collection, as the manga ran in Asuka. |

OK, I just can't contain it any longer....
Dilandau is my favourite anime 'bad guy'. I don't really understand where they came up with this hideous character design in the shonen manga. Its like, "OMG! Why is Cher on Gaia?" *slaps forehead and grumbles...* |

*Pats Dilandau* I know, it's so sad when character designs go bad. Just force the anime character design over it in your mind.

Thanks a lot, Dilandau and littlegreenwolf. I never knew there was a shoujo version of Escaflowne. It can't be better than the shonen version though.
