I'm really surprised how well the Japanese seem to be taking to the live-action Dororo, considering that last Astro Boy anime bombed. Does it have awful idols playing the characters or something...? Rolling Eyes

it has Kou Shibasaki (Battle Royale...) as Dororo, who is a professional and quite famous actress (later started singing as well).

I'm ok with her, but I just am surprised it's the current popular oldie from the guy, when Astro Boy's supposed to be the big one. Maybe it's a generational thing?

In Japan, yes. Especially with the sports that the Japanese are really good at, where they can and do medal. And it's a good thing they have medaled too.
